With this amount of detail with the problems you've run into I'm sure we can get to the bottom of it.

I’m surprised gingerkittie hasn’t made her way to this thread to discuss her 10 trips to the ER to chat about her fibromyalgia

41 own a oilfield company in West Texas. Started having chest pains in February. Went to the Er, ran a EKG came back abnormal. Ran it again and it was normal, sent me home. Blamed it on high stress, and no sleep. Fast forward four months had a widow maker heartattack. 100% blockage in my LCA. Doctor in Dallas said, I’ve orobably had 6 heartattacks in the last 6 months lol. So moral of the story m, don’t go to the hospital in small town West Texas..

They didn't do an EKG in his pre-op stuff?

Yea, and THE MACHINE missed his heart condition that caused congestive heart failure. Cardiologist said he would have caught it and postponed surgery, but the machine did not catch it.

There are a few people here who would envy you for this.

if you've met three assholes before lunch, you're the a-hole

I’d be a terrible Dr, so I guess you’re right.

Perhaps it was just that the patients were assholes?

Healthcare is a shiteshow,a neighbor came over yesterday. He went to dermatologist 2 weeks ago,Dr.biopsied couple small lesions on his face and neck.He never heard anything so assumed everything ok.
Friday he takes an elderly aunt in to same Dr.to have some lesions checked on her face.Dr. asks him if he had scheduled surgery. He asks “what surgery”She says “lesion on your neck was melanoma,my staff called you to schedule surgery”He says”no one called me”.Dr. checks his records and staff documented that they called him 9/19.He says no one called him,he’s very competent person,so I believe him.Dr. tells him she is going to remove tissue in that area, possibly 1 1/2 in. deep. It’s very small so I expect he’ll be ok.Why the hell didn’t the Dr. call herself.?
Another neighbor went to E.R. while back with flank pain radiating to his groin ,gave him diagnosis of torsion (twist) of his testicle.65 year old men don’t get torsion of their testicles, besides his testicle didn’t hurt.He comes home and calls my wife who is N.P. and describes his symptoms. She says he has kidney stone and got him worked in with urologist next day.He had kidney stone.
I have several more horror stories but I can’t type all day.The medical world is a scary place, everyone needs competent nurse,NP,PA,in their family or circle of friends.

The only way to make good money these days is on volume. Leads to more patients and less time spent with each one.
Pharma and Insurance companies run everything now. They are making the big bucks and docs are the low men on the totem pole.

What do you call the person who graduated last in their med school class?
Doctor
Doctor

quote:I clicked on this thread thinking I would disagree with you...but these two seem pretty straightforward. The dermatologist one is baffling.
My mom had a spot on her face, religiously saw the derm Dr. they lazer it off a bunch of times...it keeps growing. Finally they test it...full on cancer. Had to remove half her face, put her arm skin on her face, and leg skin on her arm..still having surgeries. Seems like a biopsy would be the first damn thing they should have done.
Dad had 2 total hips. Was scheduled for earlier, but then my mom had to go first. Dad rescheduled a few months later. Well he almost died on the operating table because of heart condition. The cardiologist goes back to read the ekg or whatever test they ran...says no way he would recommended surgery, BUT THE MACHINE THAT READ IT MISSED A KEY FEATURE...the fricking machine got it wrong was his answer. Said it was fine 3 months earlier, probably should have read it himself...ya think?

On her nose, touches her eye, whole cheek. They had to leave some of the cancer because they’d already removed flesh twice and there was just no more to take in some areas.
My parents were medical professional their whole career, so they’d never sue or talk bad about these Dr.s, they’re good friends with all of them...but shite, it’s ridiculous.

As a 50 year old physician who has been practicing for 22 years now I will tell you the truth - the overall quality of my profession has gone down. Why, you ask? It's not paperwork (with an EMR I actually do less than I did 20 years ago). It is because of affirmative action.
When I was in medical school, 10 out of 160 students were AA. None of them were from the caliber of of undergraduate schools as the rest of them class (they were mainly from HBUs) and none of the 10 finished medical school compared to only 1 out of the other 150. Several years ago I was asked to be on the admissions board of the medical school that I am affiliated with and I declined after I saw that both minorities and women had lower admissions standards.
The overall impact of this has been a lowering of the standards and quality of our profession, unfortunately
