Family Vacation Ideas

Good morning OT. Just looking for some ideas or recommendations for about a week long family getaway that would be fun for a two and six year old. Preferably less than 8-10 hours driving from the Hattiesburg area. We thought about Disney World but maybe a little too far for the little one. Thanks in advance.

What's the children's mother look like?
We need pics of her to assist you in our recommendations.

Disney is the ultimate vacation for kids...but it costs mega bucks and I would never bring a two year old there...I would try the Disney thing in another 8 or 9 years.
Have you thought about something simple like renting a cabin at Lake Tiak O'Khata in Louisville? It is not fancy, but has a damn good restaurant on site to take care of all food.

When my kids were 2 and 5, we started going to the beach and have continued the tradition for 8 years. We loved it because the kids could just bounce from the beach to the pool and be pretty happy most of the day. If they got bored we could do mini golf or the arcade or something.
It can be cheap or expensive depending on how much you want to eat out, but we do most meals in the condo or order snack food type stuff if there is something like that on-site.
With that sad, a week might be tough to fill up totally with beach fun.
You can go be the uber tourist and head up to Gatlenburg.
I wouldn't suggest Disney with kids at that age.

My daughter is 3. She has been to Disney World twice and I'm amazed about how much she remembers. She had a blast both times.

When I was a kid, we'd rent a pontoon boat and a cabin on Lake Ouachita for a couple of days. It's one of the cleanest lakes in America and is surrounded by beautiful terrain.

no doubt that they do enjoy it and remember a good bit. trouble is, you have to carry them everywhere and they just don't have the endurance to get the most out of the park hours that you paid for.
a friend of mine brought his 3 year old to Disney last year. when I saw them, I asked his son what he liked the most about his Disney vacation. you should have seen the look on my friends face when his son said that the best thing about the trip was the swimming pool at the hotel

The beach idea is one we are still kicking around. We went to Destin the year before she was born and my son had fun. I forgot that we had thought of Gatlinburg at one point so we may wind up there. Thanks all for the suggestions.

Look at the Johhny Morris Stuff in Ridgedale MO... Big Cedar Lodge, Top of the Rock, Dogwood Canyon.
Stay out of Branson proper as its a redneck hellhole, but Ridgedale is beautiful and first class.

These threads make me laugh. Let's face it. The choice will either be Gatlinburg are north gulf Coast beach vacation. Hardly is ever anything spoken of original or even wanted.

Take them to some Florida springs. Paddle down the Econfina rider.

Hadn't heard of this place before. I think my kids would have a blast there.

Wanted by who?
He wants a vacation within an easy drive and something that works with kids. It's not rocket science.
Yes, we go to Seattle every other year with the kids now. We go to Mexico. Planning stages of an Alaskan cruise. Looking to get to colorado soon.
When my kids were young, a beach trip was perfect.
