Wrong. Going to jail was his fault. His death was the fault of those over the jail. How are you not getting this?

because its assumed his drug addiction caused the "reaction" that killed him. If thats the case, the cops are guilty of neglect (for not helping him). But his death is a result of the (poor) choices he made prior to having the seizures. Not being sober and not paying his fine was a choice he made. It wasn't an act of God like a brain tumor or cancer and it wasn't perpetrated on him by anyone other than himself.

you can accuse the cops of neglect and thereby make them culpable in his death, but you can't say they did this to him.

Where are all the videos of inmates acting weird and crazy and then they live? I cannot imagine the things prison guards see on a daily basis. Plus they hear it all. I will bet every single prisoner says they are sick or dying or they cannot breath.

For 11 days while they lost 50 lbs? Please...

I am watching a friend battle demons with his son. Pain meds...he can't get clean or stay out of trouble. Unbelieveable the shite the family goes through dealing with an addict and that is what is sad to me. I have seen this kid offered more help and chances you could ever imagine...frankly I am a little surprised he is a free man.

One of my daughters became addicted to pain pills after surgery. She struggled with it for over a year. She got arrested with a half dozen pills that weren't prescribed to her.

Thankfully she never did a day in jail and went through a diversion program. It was intensive, going to classes almost every night for years. She's a productive member of society today. I was very grateful for the compassion the court showed in dealing with her, because it probably made a difference in how her life proceeded at that point.

That guy had friends. He was someones son. He was let down by a system that is sworn to protect him.

It's cool though, you can keep going through life as a weak little man. You're right in the respect that nobody really cares and most likely the mourning will be short and forgettable for you as well.

Pain meds

Worst kind of addiction. I can't imagine how many lives have been ruined, this man's included, because of pharmaceuticals in this country.
I'm not saying that those in charge of his custody did nothing wrong, but an addiction that strong can rarely be overcome. Sad situation all around.

none of this is relevant. He had a choice and the free will to get clean. He chose not to. Just like he had a choice to pay the fine.

Just watch one of the prison shows on MSNBC or any of the channels. Those places have some fricked up people. How can a guard tell who is dying and who is crazy?

I do not think resources should be wasted on non-violent offenders; however, I do not blame the guards. Prisons are fricked up places to work.

You said you had no compassion for him. Does that mean you don't have compassion for your cousin and friend's son?

I am more pissed at my friends son...still don't know the situation with my cousin...but to be honest my compassion is to my friend and his wife for all the stuff they have had to endure the last 6-7 years. I see the pain they are in that he causes...makes it hard for me to feel compassion for the kid.

They locked him in a cell and denied him the MEDICATION HIS DOCTOR PRESCRIBED HIM UNTIL HE DIED. It was not withdrawal from any illegal drug that killed him. It was withdrawals from the legal prescription medication that killed him. And the jailers knew full well the entire time that he had prescriptions for these medicines and yet they neglected to give them to him. That's what killed him.

I think it's worth noting that I feel no differently about this than if he was black. Trash is trash. Not that he deserved to die, but I'd feel a lot worse if he was a productive member of society

It's possible he could have become one.

Probably should have started by paying attention to the nurse's report when he was processed into the facility.

Look, they're caught. No amount of mental gymnastics is going to get them out of it at this point. They fricked up all the way around from the time they got custody of him.

The guy lay naked convulsing in his cell for 2 days while the guards watched via CC TV. And that's after going through hallucinations and losing 50 pounds in under two weeks. Come on.

The little I know is that they are very difficult to get off. My friends son has been through so many treatment centers...been locked up...halfway houses etc. and still goes back to them

He was getting clean via the medication prescribed by his doctor. The guards neglected to give him that medication and that's what killed him.

A lot of you should be thankful that you haven't been poor or hungry. Or been in a position of venerability. It's gross, really.

The OT has a lot of very sad and lost little men. Little men who like to complain about people who invite you to share their wedding day because you would rather be watching a bunch of children play a game.

Not a single one of you would walk up to to one of that guys friends and say he deserved to die.

Tiny, harmless little men.
