This guy was 21. At 21, many if not most are graduating and going to work. This generation is screwed. It’s always someone else’s fault. There’s always some kind of excuse. Life isn’t fair, everything isn’t tailored to our every need, you have to be able to communicate, and you’ve got to look out for yourself. Mommy and Daddy aren’t always going to be there to translate for you and accommodate your every want.

That’s not what this situation is really about but your reply is so ridiculous.

There’s a lot more to this story. This guy probably wasn’t an angel. He never should have been in that situation but there’s a lot off in this story.

Totally justified lawsuit imo.

These colleges want to demand that everyone lives on campus (or, in this case, at "off campus housing" across the street). If they're going to do that, then they should absolutely be held responsible for everything that happens to these kids who they are forcing to live there.

The very well liked and respected former president of NSU retired in 2021 after only four years. He was a relatively young guy with roots in the community and everyone assumed he would be there long term. I wonder if there were structural problems he couldn't resolve and didn't want to be there when the wheels fell off.

When I'm threatened with a gun I usually call my dad so he can call my coach so my coach can call the police.

Calling 911 myself is too much of a hassle.

You need to follow this logic to its inevitable conclusion. Unless him threatening the kid at gunpoint is on video, all this does is piss the psycho off. He would just tell police that never happened.

If some weirdo threatened me with a gun, I believe I would have left and not gone back. Why did he stay?

Another of the many questions. Why didn't Daddy tell him to go to a friend's immediately and wait for the coach to arrange for him to be moved, assuming that didn't happen. OR, why didn't the boy go to a friend's? Maybe he did and then went back for clothes? So much we really don't know.

I don't think this is about hindsight because he's now dead. I think there were either in actions or actions or both about which we are not aware.

So the college forced the student to live in the apartment complex owned and managed by a company based in Austin, Texas?

There are rumblings that he was forced out to pave the way for the current president. Don't know if this is true or not.

Why is everyone so sure the roomie killed him? Logic of course would say it's probably him, but with no arrests thus far, what gives?

I think it was moreso he reached his magic number in the retirement system and could not work & still get paid the same amount. I don’t blame him, I would take that option everyday.

I think the school got in trouble for over inflating their “on campus” student numbers a while back, and has been hemorrhaging enrollment since even before Covid.

I don’t know why non students are able to live there and much less student athletes to room with non students
My niece went to UNO and lived in student housing - an on-campus apartment. One of their roommates wasn't a student and that was apparently pretty common. There's not enough students to fill up the spots so they accept non-student residents, money grab.

Yup. He's a great guy. I know Marcus Jones has ties to Natchitoches as well, but not sure how all of this is going to shake out.

This the kind of stuff that will permanently shut a program down not just cancel a season.

I think the general consensus is that's exactly what's going to happen

Considering the NSU program has been floundering the last few years, I could definitely see the school shuttering it indefinitely like Tulane did with basketball after Hot Rod Williams and others were caught up in a point shaving scandal.

Hell, Baylor had a similar situation go on and IIRC the NCAA cancelled their non conference slate and made them go on the road the whole season in order to fulfill their commitments after cleaning house of coaches and players.

If Caldwell Jr.’s complaint about being threatened at gunpoint by his roommate had been reported to campus police by Laird or to Natchitoches police then there could have been a more immediate response and possible arrest, Pradia said. Threatening someone at gunpoint is aggravated assault, he said.

The coach is partially to blame, but the family lawyer is calling out the coach and not the deceased for not alerting the police.

Maggio was a good guy, and probably as good as NSU could have. He was one of the biggest cheerleaders for the school when I was there in the mid-late 90’s. If the powers that be were dumb enough to force him out, they will what they deserve.

Where have you seen anything stating that Caldwell was forced to live at this apartment complex?

Two words: Jim Henderson. He forced the current administration on NSU above loud protests because he wanted a minority. Current president is a nice enough guy but he’s Henderson’s one and only.

I think Henderson worked his way into LA Tech now, as president. We’ll see how his new found woke crap flies in Ruston.
