Family Court: The Problem with White Parents Raising Black Children

A friend of a friend is considering fleeing the country to keep "her kids."
Here's the lowdown as I know it.
A white woman took in three black children (siblings) that were in the foster care system in the Detroit area. The mother was deemed unfit or gave them up willingly (I'm not sure) due to a drug problem.
The white woman is fairly well-to-do and has had the kids for more than three years. They call her Momma. They go to a great school, are enrolled in dance, karate, sports, etc. They have a great life by any measurable. I'm not sure of exact ages but I think it's 9,7 and 5 or somewhere there abouts.
Last year, the bio mom decided she wanted her kids back and went to court. The first judge ruled in her favor because, and I quote "black kids belong with black families". She was removed due to allegations of covering up the abuse of her own grandchildren.

Case was retried.
Judge ruled in bio mom's favor.
It should be noted that not once did the bio mom pass a drug test during the entirety of the process.
When my friend's friend went to drop the kids off for visitation before she would finally surrender the kids, the bio mom was so high she didn't know what day it was and couldn't open the door.
Cops and CPS were called. Cops deemed the bio mom "not too high to care for children". That's an exact quote according to my friend.
Today, friend's friend picked up the kids for their last week with her (final transfer of custody is Friday) and all three were crying and begging not to be sent back.
It's heartbreaking.
I'm not one to suggest drastic matters, but I said, "Pack bags, buy tickets, and frick off to Belize if you love the kids. It's better than sending them back into hell. Damn the consequences."
I've now had two friends that foster children meet the same bias in regards to mixed race adoptions. Is this a thing nationwide? I thought we were past that.
Why would a judge send children BACK to a situation that is objectively much worse than the one they are in and have been living in for years?

The biological mother has the right to do exactly what she did.

Pretty sure Belize would extradite for kidnapping.
You may want to brush up on extradition laws before making suggestions that get her even worse off.

Not sure there's a good answer for that, tbh.
If the system worked as it was supposed to, anyone would see the kids should be where they are best cared for -- regardless of skin color or biological ties.

This is not a white vs black issue.
It’s a genetic issue. The court puts such a priority on biologically being the parent.
Biology has nothing to do with being a parent. It just means you had unprotected sex.

Damn, that’s heartbreaking. I would hope there is some sort of appeal process in these cases where a crazy judge made a bias irrational decision.

I mean it’s screwed up, but these kids weren’t legally adopted... the system is set up to give them back to the birth parents.

Family courts in America are disgusting places. Where I am, it is the most cliquey of any court system, which is insane considering the welfare and custody of children is involved. This causes judges to often rule based on who's litigating the case and not the facts of the case. I'd be interested to see if these judges are elected. Fearing a political reprisal could be a motivation for ruling a certain way, which should never exist in a judicial setting but often does.

Oh, I know. It was an off the cuff statement. I just used it to illustrate my thought that if I loved a child as my own, considered them my own, I would abandon everything, change countries, live as a fugitive never to return home in order to protect them.
