When the kids were little shopping for a tree was part of the Christmas time things to do.
Once the kids were older we went artificial and just decorate.

We alternate each year, not by rule just how it ends up. So much easier using the manmade variant and looks as good or better.

It's not really Christmas without a real tree, though. It's just not the same.
I say this having been overruled on this issue and now possibly stuck with fake trees for life.

when my kids were teens, their youth group collected christmas trees and had a bonfire with them. when i saw the flash of a dry tree instantly reduced bare limbs, i decided i would never have a live tree in my house again.

That's also how I like my women.
I grew up with a fake tree, so I don't have any real nostalgia for a real one. My wife and I are also super lazy, so fake may be the best way to go.
