Your mother needs a new rheumatologist. Plaquenil is a first-line therapy for RA and one of the oldest treatments out there. I was prescribed that, and only that, within 2 months of diagnosis. Other meds were later added, but the Plaquenil has been a constant. That was 7 years ago. I have no joint damage.
Multiple surgeries? Maybe that’s why.
