It’s been widely talked about amongst legislators that Dardenne would become LSU president if JBE was re-elected as payment for helping to get him elected the first time

What I've heard from people whobwork directly for him is this: F. King is a stereotypical academic who loves the title and prestige more than accomplishments. He isn't a strategic thinker, has little vision for the university, and spends more time managing how things look than on making things happen.
Actually, it's Dardenne himself that has always dreamed of having the job. It's unclear whether JBE agrees, but it wouldn't surprise me if he did this just to free up the commissioner position for new blood.

I remember him saying something like he was retiring from politics after the 2015 election, then accepted a job in the JBE administration barely over a month later.
