Got this on the way home from the gym this morning. AC quit blowing cold air and the temp gauge maxed out. 2007 F-150, 5.4L V8. Stayed like this for about 5 minutes then everything went back to normal.

engine has been bucking in the 55-60mph range recently so i was planning on changing spark plugs this week, but is the above warning indicative of a larger problem?

It sounds like a computer issue.

This is what I'm thinking. The thermostat got stuck.

would that explain it reverting back to normal so soon?

Just saw on an F-150 forum that someone with the same issue said they traced it back to bad sensors that read coolant temp.

Looks like they said it would peg out, then return to normal. I guess the sensors eventually "reset".

Have you looked at these? This may a little more difficult then normal.

I had this on my '09 Impala. Turned out there was a recall for this problem. I don't remember what-all they did, but it wasn't a complicated fix and it was covered by the recall.

yeah, gotta take off a lot of shite to actually get to them. my biggest fear would be breaking the plugs. former mechanic buddy is helping me out, shouldnt be too bad

Sounds like it's time to trade up to a better truck. Lucky for you, that's any other brand but Ford.

Could be a radiator issue causing the engine temp to rise. Also the bucking could be caused by the transmission running hot and as I assume this is an automatic, the transmission cooler lines run through the radiator to keep the temp cool. I would start with the radiator since the symptoms you listed can be caused by the same culprit
