Could be a radiator issue causing the engine temp to rise. Also the bucking could be caused by the transmission running hot and as I assume this is an automatic, the transmission cooler lines run through the radiator to keep the temp cool. I would start with the radiator since the symptoms you listed can be caused by the same culprit
^ probably the worst advice in the entire thread. "oh it's misfiring, I'd replace the radiator first" what a dumb frick

Disconnect the battery cables. Let it set for 10 or 15 minutes. Reconnect. No guarantees!
Luck!

^ more stupid advice. If you disconnect the battery you reset the misfire monitor which means that your mechanic will not be able to look in the system and see which cylinders have been misfiring, and once again on this fricking truck the ONLY thing that will knock it into reduced power mode is a misfire, that's it, nothing else. it won't go into reduced power mode if you need a little coolant, it won't go into reduce power mode if you're running out of gas, it won't go into reduced power mode if your transmission gets hot. It will go into reduced power mode if it MISFIRES.
The damn truck needs a tune up, and then diagnosed if there is further misfires, and if that is the case it is almost certainly an ignition coil , which is a known and very common problem on these motors.
Anyone giving you any other advice is a fricking idiot.

Any codes will still be saved in the pcm even once it has been cleared

Had the same issue with the 5.4 V8 on my 03 Silverado - they claimed nothing was wrong and that it was an issue with my alternator/battery.

F150 Owners Manual says
REDUCED ENGINE POWER Displayed when the engine is
overheating. Stop the vehicle as soon as safely possible, turn off the engine. If the warning stays on or continues to come on, contact your authorized dealer as soon as possible.

Happened to me. I had to get the radiator replaced on my Lincoln Aviator. It was bad and leaking slowly

Use someone elses vehicle. Even if it is "just a short way"/

I had this happen on a 2006 F150 when the throttle body got really dirty after using fuel injection cleaner. A can of TB cleaner and a tooth brush fixed the problem. I think it took mine 48 hrs to reset. Get your codes read, even if you didn't get a warning light, it will still throw codes.

Codes, yes, but not the misfire monitor which keeps track of which cylinders are misfiring and how many.
As I've said over and over and over, why do people insist on posting about shite they have no idea what they are talking about.
Even if you have a code P0304 that should mean cylinder 4 misfires, but that isn't always a sure thing, as an auto tech you MUST go into the datastream and view the misfires for yourself to properly diagnosse. On Fords specifically , other models differ, but on Ford SPECIFICALLY disconnecting the battery cable clears the misfire monitor and there is a special driving pattern you must follow to reset so that it monitors misfires again (or drive 100 miles at which point it resets itself)
So, what I said was correct IF you disconnect the battery you've cleared the misfire monitor on this vehicle.

fyi, one of our local vehicle experts (I think it was meauxjeaux2) suggested running some seafoam through the combustion chambers before trying to get plugs this old out in order to remove some of the carbon on the inside of the combustion chamber.

While you're under the hood, clean your Mass Airflow Sensor, too.
That's good advice. Auto Zone sells cleaner that is made for the Mass Airflow Sensor. While you are at Auto Zone get them to do a Scanner / Code Reader to see if anything comes up.

Ecological feature. You should run it with RPMs at 2500 for more than 30 minutes to clear it out.
