Grain doesn't explode in the way you are thinking, the dust is what explodes. Solid grain will just burn.
If ammonium nitrate comes in contact with organic material in the right conditions, if will use the grain as a fuel source.
In West, TX explosion, the AN didn’t explode from the fire, it melted and flowed to the seed storage area of the co-op. When it reached the organic material, then it exploded.
Another example of terrible risk management in storage of solid AN.

That picture is incredible. Adding to OP.

You might want to read up on operation Minor Scale and Misty Picture, both had larger yields than Texas City.
Don't think he ever claimed it to be the largest yield ever.

If so, this was one of the largest artificial non-nuclear explosions ever.

It would have been very interesting to see how big of a crater it would have made if it wasn't right up against the water like it was.

It's more likely a lot simpler to explain. An inept government stored a bunch of bad stuff for years until someone nearby accidentally started a fire.
Third World countries frequently experience disasters due to corruption or ineptitude. How many times have gasoline pipelines exploded in Africa because people tap into them? Someone was probably paid off to store these materials in a non approved way for reasons that may never fully be known.

I think its the angle the photo was taken. BUT there is another small ship up on the shore.

Curious how deep that crater is.

On the positive side, there's a new slough to fish in

This was a United Nations ship and it was heavily damaged with some casualties according to the UN yesterday. From the looks of it though the ship is destroyed not damaged

What kind of food you think they serve in the galley in one of those? That would be a fun place to eat.

Looks like it messed up the sea wall.

You will probably be eating like you would on a Disney cruise.

By just some simple math it looks to be in the ballpark of a 1.3-2 Kiloton explosion depending on if any fuel mixtures was present, though I haven't seen any official figures. For reference Hiroshima was 15 Kilotons.

Wow. That is terrible.
Lebanon's COVID death numbers just spiked. I wonder how this is Trump's fault...
