Extremely negligent to store a highly explosive material next to a fireworks storage facility.

What would cause the cloud to be dark red like that?
Nitrate
Yeah, nitrogen + oxygen giving nitrogen dioxide which is red, and also poisonous.

So you are suggesting that this won't be good for those with COVID in Lebanon because it could inflame their lungs?

Looks like Hezbollah was building a dirty nuke and it got out of hand.

Early reports suggest the explosion was triggered by a fire at a large fireworks warehouse.

The method chosen was a bit over the top, but I guess mission accomplished.

Whose bright idea was it to store fireworks next to a building filled with nitrate?
It would have been a lot worse if a LNG tanker was docked there.

Here is what 2,200 tons of ammonium nitrate can do.
Yeah, my dad was in 2nd grade in Texas City when that happened. He used to talk about how they watched the fire before the explosion while at the bus stop waiting to go to school and it had the strangest bright orange color to the smoke.
His school was about a 1/2 a mile from the explosion and all the windows blew in and some of the interior walls collapsed. He said everyone was covered in blood from cuts caused by the glass. It cracked windows in my grandparents' home (Mom's side) in Beaumont, 94 miles away.
Below is a video I've posted on here before that shows the actual explosion. It is taken from a point out in Galveston Bay.

Seems like a questionable place to store a highly explosive substance.
Some lessons shouldn't need to be learned.

The long-range video shows the shockwave rippling through the clouds overhead, about 20 seconds after the big one, then wait for it ... BOOM.

The Beirut explosion caused by highly explosive sodium nitrate confiscated from a ship more than a year ago and were placed in one of the warehouses located in the port
Storing a very explosive material next to a fireworks warehouse in a highly unstable country where everyone smokes on the job. What could possibly go wrong?
