CO2 and H2O are typically products of complete combustion of organic compounds.

ethylene oxide

So do we think it was EO that exploded? Or something else exploded near where Dow has EO stored above ground?

I've heard several estimates about how much EO they have stored and the damage it could cause, usually something like it would completely level a 5 mile radius or redirect the river. This sounds completely absurd, nuke destruction.

Can anyone confirm or debunk?

Sounds like a single ethylene oxide compressor blew up, not the entire supply

ETA: second hand info obviously

Sounds plausible to me. I wonder what kind of damage a large quantity could do.

My good sir, have you ever been to Reddit?

This is why the choade of all choades has a helipad on his building. He knows Gordon and Dudley Debossier have to navigate the bridge, he’ll have solicited all the sheep before they get there.

Not exactly correct. Fully staffed means different things to different people. The operators to run it always have full staff unless the plant is down. All of the maintenance and support people are not there at night, weekends, holidays but the guys who actually run things are there 24/7/365

I worked for a chemical manufacturer in Geismar for over 30 years. Worked in ethylene oxide / ethylene gycol units.
Do not under estimate the destructive properties of ethylene oxide. We heard the same stories of changing the route of the river. It refers to the potential of all of the ethylene oxide stored on site decomposing at once.
Look up "decomposition" as it pertains to chemical reactions. It's a word that strikes fear in plant baws.
