They actually allow trains to roll through campus on football game days?

It's insane the rights that the railroads have. Protected by federal law, they can do whatever they want, whenever they want.

There's a railroad about 2 miles from my house. A schedule changed and a train that used to come through mid-day now rolls through around midnight. Blaring their horn because of safety reasons. Our local elected officials talked to the railroad about going back to daytime, railroad basically told them to F off.

Interstate commerce.

Was involved in a rather large derailment once and an Illiois State Trooper (sergeant) demanded my drivers license. The other cops around about spit out their coffee when I told him no, he wasn't getting my drivers license.

Handed him a card provided by the railroad that says why we do not have to provide them with that information. He flipped out and said "This is not your license!" I told him to read the part along the bottom.

"See where it says CFR 49? CFR stands for Code of Federal Regulations. You have no jurisdiction."

As he stormed off with his rookie in tow the other cops and firemen were all smirking and later said they were surprised I told the guy to pound sand. They didn't know either.

Railroads are all federal. Locals can scream all they want..

Oh, and if you don't like the horns don't buy a house by the tracks. They've been there long before you were thought of.

You couldn't just be normal and give him your license?

He sounds like a typical railroad employee. Fed law gives them total control, and they know it.

I’m guessing it would be that he was following company policy.

In my dealings with the rail companies this has been the case.

Local officials get told to freak off...and the RR's aren't even nice about it.

I've seen a few state officials be able to get some movement, but only when their party was in power in DC.

Heights here. I’m a deep sleeper and didn’t hear anything. Wife didn’t hear anything either. Obviously some people did according to Nextdoor.

I cranked it right before bed and had on my weighted blanket. No wonder I didn’t hear it.

Because the police have a nasty tendency to put things involving trains on your record, including driving.

An engineer I worked with smoked a car at a crossing and gave his license to the cop. Guess what happened to his car insurance.

More than once guys have been hauled off to jail for refusing to give information. Sprung within the hour after a brief phone call by the company lawyer.

Again, they have zero jurisdiction.

When I killed the "trespasser", actually suicide, a cop climbed up on my engine. I pointed out to him he had zero authority to do so, but then let it slide. He also asked for my license. He didn't get it either. He didn't put up as much of a fight about it. (Frankly I was kinda hoping that State cop woulda hauled me in. Would have looked even worse for him and I was just sitting around for 12 hours anyway.)

Do you want killing someone on your driving record? When you were not operating a motor vehicle?

Locomotive engineers, and now conductors, are federally certified and carry a card that is very similar to a DL in appearance.

One person still missing. They were likely the ignition source to whatever explosive gas that was concentrated up in the warehouse.

Watson is one of our vendors. Spoke to our Watson rep this morning around 8. He had no info on casualties at that time. They were not working 24 hours, but he said a few guys go in that early to use the gym. The gym is located in the long building, which is still standing, but with a wall blown off.

That would suck to see your pet chewing on something that ends up being a body part.
