Was it location? Service? Other pizza joints that had better food?

I remember eating there once when I was a kid. Seemed like the other locations to me.

I never liked either location. Maybe outside of Lafayette, people recognized that it wasn’t anything special.

Didn’t they get busted for serving liquor to underaged folks?

Baton Rouge has no taste.
Plus that location is a restaurant graveyard.

I believe you mean “the shitty pizza place on highland by LSU that let freshman get fricked up and got raided multiple times for allowing underage drinking”

Yes.

They couldn’t make it work in a city with average pizza offerings and a giant university. It just wasn’t very good.

Just different cities and nostalgia ... Fleur de Lis or Pastime would not make it in Laf....at the height of Deangelos success, if I remember correctly he tried Laf and failed

The refined Baton Rouge palette prefers the subtle quality of Fleur de Lis and Pastime.

TL;DR: Everyone loves their own local crappy pizza, but that's all it is: local crappy pizza. If you don't believe me, find a Johnny's fan and dare talk about that sloppy mess.

Agree. Nostalgia rules and blinds the nostalgic people in a lot of these places, especially Pizza. Tony’s in Lake Charles, Johnnies in Monroe, in addition to the previously mentioned places.

This, restaurants go in and they don't come out.

Like Capital City Brewery in Esplanade on Constitution.

I lived in Lafayette for 5 years and the Lafayette location is gangbusters.

The last restaurant that had any success there was Calendar's. Not sure if Fatcow is the same lease space or not but they are having trouble also after losing their liquor license a while back.

So at one time the place was insanely popular.

I liked going for their specialty pizzas. Thinking about it, I don't think I ever had something like a plain pepperoni from there.

I live in Lafayette. I’ve eaten deanos once in 9 years living out here. I have no idea how they’re still surviving. Not very good food.

Nothing lasts in that old Calendars spot. It's the kiss of death.
