figured the autos would be about as durable, and as an everyday...close enough on time. For a one watch man...the automatic...no?

Normally yes but his watches take an entirely different level of shite. So I say quartz

I've heard from policemen that firemen are lazy, so I figured they just sat around all day.

Kidding obviously, but at a work party an officer told that to a much smaller guy whose dad was fireman and holy shite did mayhem break out. The officer worked for my company and the fireman's son was an employees date that DNGAF. I've never seen a situation go from words to choking so fast. Everyone had had a few, so yea...I'll never forget, nor use those words in person. Still not sure the officer was joking...although that was his story once the date was kicked out.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't that the definition of a watch?

Put it on a NATO or ZULU strap so you can blow out a spring bar and still hold onto it. You'd never blow out both, so you're covered.

Not a bad recommendation, but the stainless Marathon bracelet is a true thing of beauty. Excellent craftsmanship.

That's a 55mm Laco "Observer" watch.
LINK

I wouldn't even. I was explaining what clock meant in reference to a wrist watch.

It's not really Suunto. It's watches that big.

I can see if you truly need it for the functions, but for regular everyday wear. Hell no.

If my poor old mechanic grandpaw were still alive. I'd get him one. that poor man endured tiny watches and jewelers having to cut and splice together stainless bands his whole life that he wore Seikos.

Big assed wrench turning forearms and hands.

Anything less than 46mm looks like a child's watch on me. I could understand if you had smaller arms but I do not

What Luminox watch was it and what killed it? If this is a watch that has to hold up to extreme temps under a fire suit as well as impact resistance then you will want to stay away from automatic movements. Even workhorse mechanical movements encased in a solid steel case are not temperature compensated like higher end quartz movements. Victorinox INOX watches are advertised as tough sports watches. Marathon's are built like tanks. Casio does make G-shock watches beyond the typical square department store throw-aways too.

I loved my Swiss army. I had it over 10 years and only had to replace the battery once, I think. I accidentally left it in my jeans pocket one day and my wife washed it. It ran backwards after that.

It looked kinda like this
