re: Every developed country has high speed rail, why are so many against it in the U.S.?

The prior administration tried this but reality got in the way.

"We have plans to build a railroad from the Pacific all the way across the Indian Ocean," Biden said at the league’s June 14 dinner. "I’m going off script, I’m going to get in trouble."

Why would we emulate anything those weak cucks do?
Our infrastructure is better, our fuel is cheaper, and we love our freedom of movement.
Use logic.

You make 4-6 16 hour flights a month to and from China? Sounds like you should live there if you need to be there that often. The toll on your body for the time change must be brutal.

Everything about it sucks. The people suck, the food sucks, the internet sucks. Every city has more smog than 1970’s Los Angeles. The whole place is fricking gross.
I doubt you've ever actually been to China.

Well I’m a cargo pilot. Someone has to go pick up all the iPhones and Temu crap you buy.

It's not about size. It's about population density, an infrastructure shaped by the automobile and, to a much lesser extent, politics.
We already have high speed rail in most places where it makes economic sense.
BTW, I love rail travel. The convenience and comfort of rail travel puts flying to shame, especially in Europe. But it just isn't going to work in areas where the population and the places they want to go are as spread out as it is in the US.
Plus, who wants ride a train from Baton Rouge to Las Vegas for a couple of days when you can fly there in a few hours?

Because we live in stick built houses all over the place.

Everyone griping about their tax dollars being misused yet probably driving around in the latest $86k GMC Denali Watusi to bring Jaxleigh and Kayleigh Grace to practice. Talk about misuse of funds.
But in all seriousness, transcontinental high-speed passenger rail isn’t needed here. It’s more economical and safer to fly. However, shorter haul routes in high density areas do make sense and we should be pushing harder for them.

Honestly, why do we care about high speed rails?

This again?
Fix our existing crumbling infrastructure then we can maybe consider thinking about sinking hundreds of billions of dollars into high speed commuter rail. Until then? It is a non-starter.

Another good point that crosses over my point.
because this is what that ball of mush was really trying to say.
quote:
The plan Biden referred to would develop a railroad that may eventually link ports on the Indian Ocean to the Atlantic Ocean, not the Pacific.
The U.S. plans to spend $250 million to support the Lobito Atlantic Railway Corridor, a rail line spanning from the Lobito Port in Angola, which touches the Atlantic Ocean, through Zambia, to the Democratic Republic of the Congo. When we asked the White House about Biden’s claim, the press office told us Biden had this railroad project in mind.
Again, we are spending our money elsewhere.

Biden and the dems have a strange obsession with trains.

But if we did that, politicans could no longer promise to do it during election cycles.
I have been voting age since 1988. Heard "fix our crumbling infrastructure most cycles". Government makes way more money from each gallon of gas than the company does, yet here we are with crumbling infrastructure.
And there are still people out there who believe our government exists to fix shite.

High speed rail would be useful in some applications, but we have an extensive transportation network built around the idea of tax money building and maintaining a road network and your private money buying what you drive on that road. That gives you more freedom in both what you travel in and where and when you go than having your tax money build the rail system and then paying a user fee when you use it, based on their schedule.

I will just contribute...that I know a guy who inspects rail and trains for a living. He said he would never ride on a train, and no way in hell he would put a family member on a train. That's enough for me.
I did take high speed rail the the Noir Valley in France years ago. It was impressive. I could help but think how easy it would be to attack a rail out in the countryside. Terrorists be sneaky.

Yall are acting like I don't know this.
None of china being a-hole negates the fact they don't give a flying frick if they build a railway through a historically black neighborhood.
You can't compare things china does with US and say, we can do that here.

Dumbass. Let’s do California high speed rail. Show pictures and maps of what’s done and how much has been spent so far. Compare those numbers with the original estimates and how much time has gone by to get done what they got done. Then we’ll talk.
