Seems like a mostly labor job…doable with some Youtube help. Removing it from the car looks to be the crux of the biscuit. Have to take all the bits off, remove the passenger and rear seats, then somehow get it out of the passenger rear door.

Probably be driving around with no passenger seats or headliner for a bit.

Covering the switch plates and sunroof cover may be tricker, the headliner material is foam backed.

Got some suede samples in…seems like a cheap job in the DIY form.

I did it once. Replaced it with a new one. It was an antique car though. Major pain in the arse. Screws stuck, clips broke. All mostly overhead work.
I would think all the plastics on newer cars will probably break or crack.
Worth it when you’re done . Looks so much better.

I actually did one in our old Volvo station wagon. You're right, the most difficult part was getting it in and out of the back door. Also did the sunroof cover. Turned out pretty well, not as good as a pro shop would have done, a wrinkle here or there, but 200% better than before. Tutorials on YT make it easy for a DIY'er.

Oh yea, I’m sure whatever clips are there will have to be ordered…I bought new switch plates because my Indy said those retaining clips are shot once you pry them loose.

my first job out of High School was working at a dealership.
we never removed any seats to get them out.

just recline the two from seats to the fully laid back position and they are out of the way.

Note: that was almost 30 years ago now, so things may be different now.

I paid a couple hundred bones for some place in Gonzales to replace it for me a couple of trucks ago. Worth not having to do it myself.

The kit is $87.50… I have an old BMW sedan…I was expecting at least $375, closer to $500.

Just take it to a BMW dealership. They'll charge you at least that much no problem.

I did it for my Pontiac Sunbird. The foam holding it to the cardboard failed totally in the heat of a Houston summer.

I did get a chuckle or three in Houston traffic seeing other drivers with their headlines collapsing in other GM cars back then.

I did a 77 Camaro Z28 headliner. Used some black vinyl that matched from Hancock fabric store and spray on contact glue. Looked great & materials were cheap.

When i look in my rear view i see it flapping around…but I don’t think it’s low enough for folks outside to see it.

My son and I just replaced the headliner in his vehicle a few weeks ago.

Difficulty depends on the vehicle. Results quality based upon following the tips/details the u-toob people offer.

He did it that way/used that tool for a reason.

You can remove/re-cover/replace in one day easily.

I do a lot of stuff on my vehicles DIY. But changing a headliner is one of these things I'd gladly pay someone to do for me.

Anything I CAN do I will. I’ll buy another $87.50 kit and redo the damn thing if I’m not happy with my job.

It's a giant pain in the arse. Getting the base in and out is the worst part. the actual application of the cover isn't really bad at al. Just make sure the edges and any areas with aggressive profile changes are glued well and it'll be fine.

Yea, I’ll need to supplement the kit spray adhesive with something brushable.

I am dreading getting the base out for sure. Hard to even understand how it will come out.

Did the headliner of my '79 Camaro in high school. Pretty easy job.

Carefully. Getting it out is easier than putting it back in. You can kinda bend it and torque it to get it out but you want to limit that and watch out for snags when you're putting it back in with the new cover. I know some people that pop the windshield out to do it on cars.
