Friend just did this with an AirBnb in Austin. She was there for work. Wanted to stay at a house with a kitchen (she travels for work a lot and was tired of eating at restaurants every meal). Gets in late cause of travel delays. All ready to just get in bed and go to sleep so she doesn't really inspect the place when she gets there. She said from what she saw initially place looked fine.

Crawls in bed and is about to pass out when she starts feeling something crawling on her arm. Turns on light and gets out to inspect...bed is full of insects. She quickly grabs her stuff and hauls arse and drives around at 2 am trying to find a hotel to stay at.

We got booked for one night in a hotel in the Tenderloin District of San Francisco. The desk clerk who check us in was behind a bullet-proof cage. Restless night - checked out early and hung in the lobby of the Saint Francis Hotel until we could get our room.

Twice (once in MS, the other in AL) I was given a smoking room when we specifically requested a non-smoking room. The first time they offered Freebreeze and we said frick it and drove back go BR. The second time we just traded rooms because it was late and we were just sleeping for the night. And even the room we switched to was one of the most disgusting things I've ever seen.

Took a road trip with my brother. He worked on the road so the theme was Waffle House and shitty motels. We got to the room and I commented on that it was really loud in the room..There was no window or screen in the transom..completely open to nature. Then I looked in the bathroom and I don't ever remember seeing a dirtier bathtub in my life. It looked like real a dirty/greasy mechanic bathed in there.. I walked in the room and said no way..He didn't argue.

No but once when I turned out the lights there was a light shining thru a small hole in the mirror.

Probably around 1998 or so, my friends girlfriend called and got a great deal on a hotel the entire weekend of Mardi Gras. She made the reservation the weekend before so we knew it wouldn't be a good experience, but figured since there were 8 of us, mostly guys and we'd be out the room for the vast amount of time (including the Zoolu rave at State Palace, if that gives you any indication of our mindset at the time). I had to work that Friday night and my friends all went down that day to party and check in and I went later alone to meet them.

Well, I bartended at a restaurant so I didn't get off work until 11 or so and had already been drinking, picked up a little 'pick me up' for the ride and headed down. The room was off St. Charles, so it couldn't be too bad, I figured. It was The Audubon Hotel, near the interstate and that big chuch. I park down the street and walk in. It's a fricking bar. I'm confused. I didn't have a cell phone because they didn't exist. I grabbed a beer and asked the bartender. He informed me that my friends left me a key for upstairs, handed me a key. No ID, no questions asked. A guy at the bar asked if I wanted any cocaine but I was good so I politely said no. The plan was that I would 'page' them from the room, they'd call back and tell me where to go. The room was a shithole. People shooting up in the hallway. I go in the room, and of course, no phone. The room shared a bathroom with the room next to it. At some point in the trip, we go in the bathroom to a guy 'nodding out' on the toilet, fully dressed but a syringe on the ground.

I drop my bag and hit the streets. Take a taxi to the Quarter with no way to reach my friends, but a wallet full of money and a pocket full of 'pick me up'. I meet a guy from Atlanta that was in a black out when his friends checked in and then got lost and had no idea where he was staying so he was alone too. We partied until about 10 in the morning and then I invited him back to our hotel where all my friends were crashed out. The dude hung out with us until Sunday when we luckily ran across his friends. Somewhere in there, my car got towed and I had to pay $250 to get it but luckily the cops didn't look in the matchbox I had openly sitting in the cup holder or I would have been in a world of trouble.

Anyway, it was a very memorable Mardi Gras the place as sketchy as it can get. Hit all the steriotype. Prostitutes, open drug use, no services, dirty everything. EVERYTHING. Etc.

I actually stayed there one other time when I was in a very dire situation but I don't want to get into all that. I will say I checked in under the name Saul Hudson which is Slash' from GnR real name. No ID needed.

Audubon Hotel on St. Charles is a No Go.

It’ll be safer sleeping in your car on the side of I-10

After driving about 10 hours down the east coast heading to BR I pulled into a rest area on I-10 somewhere between Jacksonville and Tallahassee about 2am. Locked doors, leaned seat back, cracked bothe front windows and laid the seat back was asleep immediately. About an hour later I hear scraping on my drivers window and woke up to see a grisly white man with a big knife scraping the window and staring at me. Literally with his face almost pressed to the window about 6 inches from my face.

Wake up out of a deep sleep to that and tell me you won’t shite your pants. The motor was running and I hit drive and took off with the seat laid back and didn’t stop until I got to Biloxi. fricking scares me now and that was 25 years ago.

Yeah, in Lafayette right past prejeans. Would have been quieter at Frank N Furtor's Mansion.
