Ever-Lasting Life through Digital Simulation

For some reason the Heaven's Gate topic got me thinking about life and brought about my semi-regular existential crisis. So what if we could guarantee an existence after death. An existence that we had control over and could script whatever way we wanted. A simulation similar to the one in the The Matrix that is indistinguishable from human existence, but one in which we are the programmers.
Companies are already trying to figure out ways to prolong life through technology and one day we will be at a point where we can completely digitize life with our human brains living forever in a utopia simulation.
So, if the technology existed, would you do it? Assume you could program your existence to be whatever you wanted. Your own personalized heaven.

Go watch the Black Mirror episode "San Junipero."
This is addressed there.

Unless you can duplicate your consciousness it's not really you. Your avatar would go on but you would not exist.

What if we are already in the simulation and we just keep getting into a new one at the end of our life?

How long until someone changes your utopia simulation into a dungeon porn simulation and uses you as their own personal sex slave locked in a hard drive?

Probably still a utopia for some.

That's why I go to church.

What I'm talking about is duplicating your consciousness. Assume that technology has progressed to the point of keeping our brains or our consciousness intact indefinitely. I'm not talking about just a digital avatar of yourself, but a way to keep the brain alive and inject whatever kind of reality you want. Think of it like hacking your brain with the best dream you can think of, but a dream that is eternal.

This has likely already happened and we are just reliving various eras.
This also means no one is real but me.

its the key to eternal life.

Yep and I honestly dont think it's that far away. Maybe a couple hundred years

Kind of off topic, but I always wondered if we could get a printout of our ‘stats’ once we made it to heaven
It’d be cool to know how many steps I’ve taken, how much distance I’ve traveled on foot, how many girls I’ve hooked up with, how many fish I’ve caught over the years, how many total nuts I’ve busted, etc.... would be really cool IMO

I can pretty much only code hello world apps in any imaginable programming language
In this world I'd be essentially a step above a vegetable. No thanks.

Okay well assume that you just tell someone what you want and they do the coding for you.
Only catch is that you have one chance to get your utopia correct. After that you are stuck with it for eternity

The Singularity is the Antichrist and its presence will usher in the End of Days. Repent for The End is nigh.
