I also want to throat punch people who rush from rows behind you and won't let you out. I cut them off but still.
If you need to get off because of a short connection fine, I'll let you through, but I bet that's not the issue.

These are the same fools who stand up in Group R when they're boarding Group B.

Those tend to have some funny moments. We landed in Houston once with some hellacious crosswinds. We were on final approach and the pilot had the plane crabbed over so far because of the wind that I could look out my window and see the runway and all the other planes moving around the airport. Crosswind landings tend to be rough, but this one was special. The pilot snapped the plane out of its crab, the first main caught and bit and jolted the plane around, the second main hit, and the plane bounced a couple of times before the pilot finally put the nose gear down HARD and settled everything on the ground.
The cabin was fricking SILENT. After a few seconds, the co-pilot comes over the PA and says: "Captain [insert name here] would like to thank you for flying [I forget] airlines and joining him for his first ever landing attempt. Please congratulate him as you depart the airplane." That one got a few laughs and the captain was good-natured about it as we got off the plane.
Another time our pilot was retiring and it was his last flight. The ground crews usually will bring the fire trucks out and wash down his plane as he taxis past after his last landing as a sign of respect. The guy next to me was one of these impatient self-important a-hole fliers and couldn't be bothered to listen to any of the crew's announcements, including the one where they informed us that we would be getting hosed down by fire trucks when we landed. That a-hole freaked the frick out when he looked outside and saw the fire trucks spraying us. Good times.

It’s happened once to me on a flight to Dallas landing a Love Field. I sat near the rear of the aircraft on the left side. The crosswind from the north was so bad the pilot was having to majorly overcorrect to maintain his course. I could see the runway out of the window. Lots of bumps, drops, turbulence. Dude got us down on first try and deserved the applause imho.

Yes it's common in Africa. Every flight I've taken into Africa the passengers clap at landing.

Makes sense to clap for a smooth flight and easy landing.
I’m not clapping for an idiot pilot who charted a flight path through rough weather or landed a plane so rough it makes my stomach lurch. Flying already is a pain in the arse least they can do is give a me a smooth, stress free flight where I don’t have to stay buckled in holding a piss in miserably.
Rather than clap, I will call and complain and demand a refund along with added flier miles, and that the pilot be reprimanded

On my dad's retirement flight our whole family was aboard and handed out things (hersheys bar with his flight stats wrapped around it) to the rest of the people on the plane. He got a huge applause as he landed his last landing.

People always clap on international flights. I figured it was to celebrate arrival in a new land, not a congrats to the pilot.

Hispanics always do this. Recently I was on a flight from Dulles to Columbus that was turned around back to Dulles due to a mechanical failure. Most of the plane clapped when we landed.

Clapping for a flawless landing has become a rare thing as most pilots seem to enjoy slamming them down.
I appreciate the skill to set one down smoothly and clap for it.
