Yes.
Happened with my father. I did not attend his funeral nor will ever visit his grave.
Don’t give a shite.
ETA: said Wedding for funeral by mistake.
ETA2: my older sister has never gotten over my stance regarding Dad’s death/funeral.
I love her, but I’ve told her to get fricked on that shite.

No reason that should be downvoted.
I know the a-hole. I knew him for 33 years.
I can give no fricks with no regret. Dude put loaded weapons at my moms head when I was 8.
Don’t fricking judge my judgement

Not me per se, but my grandfather’s leaving my grandma and mother (when she was 1 or 2) in the early 40’s is the reason I ended going to LSU. He moved to Metairie from Missouri (where my mom and grandma were) and did well for himself. He came back into her life around ‘76 and out of guilt offered to move me down to Metairie and send me to LSU. Took him up on it.

Haven't talked to my Dad in a couple years now. I used to call and check on him and go see him. He would never call me or check on my kids unless he had something to bitch about, he would tell the family he tried calling me but that was a lie. I had a couple more incidents so I decided I had enough. I stopped all contact with him.

While this may be true for some, I didn’t/don’t. My father was an evil sob. I didn’t attend his funeral this past summer and prior to that I hadn’t seen him in decades. I believe I’m a better person/husband/father for not having him in our lives.

When I was 9 I asked my parents for a mini bike for Christmas. I did not get it.
I killed them both.
Maybe they should have got me the mini bike instead of the .38 Colt.

Yes. My mother was a tyrant. After the last time she dog-cussed me for not driving from Florida to Louisiana the day after Katrina I had finally had enough. 50 years of that bullshite and that was the final straw.
I had not spoken to her in over 10 years when she died. I did go to the funeral just to make sure she was really dead. Did not cry a single tear and haven't yet. It was like being let out of prison.

How does a person that allows this to happen to their child sleep at night? I legitimately feel sorry for you man.

Not a parent but my Grandmother. My Dad had complications from open heart surgery and after 4-5 months moved in with her where someone could be with him 24/7. By the time he was able to return to work he had lost his home. When he died several years later she began giving many of his belongings away to his Brothers. He had no will but was very specific in his journal how all of his belongings would be divided by my sister and I. She and I had some words but I was hesitant to push it too far at that moment because she was recovering from a heart attack herself. I cut all ties for about two years. She made no bones about the fact I was her favorite grandchild but was way too prideful to admit that she was wrong so the stalemate continued. The last time she was hospitalized (I saw on my cousin’s Facebook) something told me to go see her. I walked in, she perked up and acted if those two years never happened. As we were leaving I turned to tell her I would see her Tomorrow and tears were streaming down her face.
I got the call the next morning that she was gone. Several of my cousins and two of her sisters hugged me and whispered in my ear “She was just waiting on you “. It broke my heart but I’m not sure whether or not I would change a thing.

Went over 20 years without seeing or talking to my Dad. He was an a-hole. My grandparents were Saints however.

It's been over 30 years since I've even spoken to the woman who is my mother and not a single regret by me.
I had 2 sisters, one who recently died and they too have had very little to do with her over the years.
Funny thing is, this woman has a public persona that belies her true self and people think she's such a wonderful person. However, when people get close enough to her, they eventually see her true self and distance themselves. This is a pattern that has been going on for decades.

Sad thread to read. I was comparatively blest.
I hope the best outcome possible for any of those who still have live parents and/or at least an eventual peace to all with regard to their parents.
<—— Dad dead since ‘89 (good dude)
<—— Mom (no pics) dead since ‘96 (wonderful lady)

Yep...
My father is dying right now. I have received calls from two aunts and multiple cousins telling me about it and how all he wants is to tell my brother and I how much he loves us before he dies.
My response - he’s had a lifetime to do this. He left us. He’s made many plans and promised and failed to keep them more times than anyone can count. He hasn’t been there for any of kids birth, birthdays, any games or events they participate in - despite me telling him and giving him “gas” money to get to various things. Then he doesn’t show up at his mom’s burial despite her being the one to take him in on his hard times, and I find out he stole significant money from her.
These other family members don’t like my response and get pissed at me. I don’t really care.
Here’s the lesson I tell my kids - if at the end of your life you want someone there and to know you love them, use your life and your actions to let them know. If you f-up, don’t wait until the end to try to show remorse.

I've helped a friend through that before. It takes a toll is all I will say, but sometimes a toll now is more than the continued terribleness of having them in your life.

Don’t worry, I’ve “spoken” to her enough for you. She says all is well. Of course, it’s hard to talk with the ball gag in all the time.
Why she insists on me wearing it so much is beyond me.
