I genuinely don't understand how Boston is rated that high. That accent is like nails in your ears.

I wonder what they mean by "Midwestern" accent. Like the plain jane Cincinnati-newscaster accent or the offensive Chi-CAH-go spew that you hear in parts of the upper Midwest?

The Southern California accent is pleasant, if bro-ey.

No way that's the third best accent in the country. Only the Minnesotan is worse.

I'm sure it was taped, I wouldn't doubt the person doing the poll used actors. Probably used someone like Ben Affleck for Boston.

When I went to Italy a few years ago, two things I noticed:

1. The girls there are SMOKING HOT
2. The girls there loved me whereas here in America none of them, outside of my wife (and only because she has to ) gives me the time of day. But over there, they couldn't get themselves enough of TD's. Everywhere I went they would stare, smiling, and find ways to touch my hand and arm. I was loving it and my wife just laughed it off since we were in another country. But then at our hotel on the last leg of our trip there was the most beautiful one yet working the front desk that kept coming back to the room to ask me if I was alright and wanted anything. Of course, I wanted to tell her exactly what I wanted but didn't. That's when my wife had had enough and finally got pissed.

Good to know my wife still cares

I feel like they’re probably thinking of the regal South Carolina/Georgia type accent. More foghorn leghorn than some bama trailer trash.

They do love the Doc Holliday accent.

But Boston and New York? I think they just like the refreshment of something that flies in the face of the buttoned-down, starched accents they're used to.

There’s 2 types of Deep South accent.

1- Savannah classy southern accent
2- Panhandle white Trash accent

True in most European cities. Think of all the extra hots in the U.S. if everyone was normal weight?

I saw a video once that gave examples of how Southern linguistic and phonetic tendencies are more like Old English than any other American regional dialect.

I saw an interview with a an English actor (I think it was the lead guy from Walking Dead) who said the Southern American accent is the easiest for him to mimic.

Maybe that's why it's easier for English actors to mimic a Southern accent.

Agree. I can't tell a Puerto Rican accent from a Spanish accent.

Generally speaking (no pun intended) from my time at Auburn I found that the Southern Alabama accent was generally much better than northern. Huntsville, Decatur, Florence, etc. had the more annoying as hell and higher pitch. Montgomery and south especially Mobile generally has closer to the lower pitch like most of south Georgia.

Agree. I grew up in Montgomery and now live in the Huntsville area. The south Alabama accent is a little more pleasing to the ear. North Alabama still great compared to some parts of western North Carolina though.
