Germany Announces 4-Week Shutdown Amid Covid Spike

Chancellor Angela Merkel says German officials have agreed to implement a four-week shutdown of restaurants, bars, theaters and clubs in hopes of containing coronavirus outbreaks that have led to a rapid rise in cases this month in Germany and throughout Europe.

quote:

Europe accounted for nearly 50% of the 2.8 million new coronavirus cases reported globally last week, according to the World Health Organization, which has resulted in many European nations reimposing harsh restrictions. Last week, Italy's Minister of Health said "quick, urgent and strong measures" were required to prevent a lockdown. On Tuesday, the Russian government announced a nationwide mask mandate. French President Emmanuel Macron announced Wednesday that France will impose a strict lockdown beginning Friday

Sad. I hope America doesn't take this authoritarian push laying down.

Protect the vulnerable and educate people on how this spreads, but don't shut life down for everyone else.

Don't forget The Destroya is on a National Council with many of these same "World Leaders". They all have the same end goal.

Exactly. We've heard it before.

Previous restrictions haven't done much to prevent the spread, much less eliminate this virus. It has successfully destroyed a lot of businesses and forced people into poverty, which has catastrophic societal costs that no one talks about.

Feels like they are trying but a lot of people do not believe what is being said.

-“Wear a mask bc it reduces chances of spreading”
-“frick that, masks don’t do anything. I’m not wearing one .”

Trust in American media is at an all time low. More people trusts congress than the average journalists.

I can't blame them at all either. Covid response has been very fluid over the past 8 months. Depending on their agenda and how it fits the media's narrative, any particular leader changing policy based on new information is portrayed as "indecisive" or "brilliant".

Americans are frustrated with all of it, and hopefully start to think for themselves a bit more after this.

If you've not seen the answer to this over the last year, I'm not sure what to tell you. We have gone from the Boston Tea Party to a bunch of soyboi pussies. FACT.

Why don't they get the simple logic of viruses.
You isolate everyone for a month and then once you start opening again it will keep spreading. The goal should be protecting the high-risk and elderly while allowing for the less-risk population to go on about their business. This keeps the hospitals under control and economy moving.

Europe has been on strict mask protocols with total compliance for months now.

And their cases are skyrocketing. Why?

yep. this will only slow things temporarily. maybe they are already being overran and cant free up enough beds to keep up, but otherwise this is a pointless move

I feel like Europe is either in full lockdown mode or everybody is walking around like nothing is going on.

You can't do this with Covid, its too contagious, you have to learn to live with it
