If it's not the original, then it's the first one in Baton Rouge. I still eat their regularly. I prefer smokin' aces, but they are not open at dinner time like podnuh's generally is.

yeah I really dont know where it started. I have always liked podnuhs, and when I moved to BR I was close to the essen one but wouldnt go there because of traffic.

Don't hate on Jays BBQ or Fleur de Lis. Those are local institutions! Neither will be going anywhere for quite sometime because of their customers!
And honestly, you probably could have said the same thing about Picadilly. (Quite sad, because I have fond memories of Picadilly growing up). If you don't change, you die.

My least favorite phrase in the world.
Now, I wouldn't go to The Advocate and write an article bashing FDL (*cough Louies *cough), but it's awful. My best friend just quit, and believe me when I say girl RAN away from there as fast as she could. No walking. Ran.
I went to visit her a few months ago, and the pizza was so bad that I was actually feeling sick and had to stop eating. Maybe if you get the cheese pizza it isn't as bad? I don't know.
I love a dirty hole in the wall, but that place crossed the threshold of hole in the wall and entered filth.

Wendy's on Oneal is the worst fast food service I've ever had. They served me a spicy chicken that burnt my lips on the outside and was pink and frozen in the middle, too. I can't say I'm surprised they're open, though. Location is too good.
Considering once you cross the state border out of LA you feel like you've traveled 100 years into the future, I'm more surprised that we still have almost nothing here.

What you have to remember is that there are very few restaurants on that side of town. Don's does very well for lunch because there are a ton of businesses down Airline around there. There are also a lot of people from Exxon that eat there. The food is not great but not terrible either.
