Why did they make the side heading to Staring more lanes than the side heading to the interstate?

I can’t recall the last time I saw someone pulled over for reckless driving on the interstate. Must’ve been over a decade ago

Besides the ones mentioned by you and others, there is also a surgery center on Perkins near Essen and the BR General at Bluebonnet backs up against Essen via Summa and Picardy, meaning traffic bleeds off in both directions.

Shift change has always sucked on Essen and the additions of OLOL Children and General Bluebonnet have not helped.

Name a single road in BR that isn’t miserable. I mean like main roads.

Plus a ton of doctors offices and out patient surgery centers (like the bone and joint clinic). The Baton Rouge Clinic on Perkins by Dijon. Baton Rouge rehab hospital in United Plaza.

Non-medical you have Turner industries, P&N, and 2 state retirement systems offices in United Plaza and Worley (Parsons) on Essen.

Are y'all talking about the same BR I have to commute to? Getting around is a breeze now thanks to Broome getting all of the traffic lights synchronized.

I wonder if that connector by the Children’s Hospital/Ralph & Kacoos to Bluebonnet will make any difference.

Seriously, since their grand announcement has anyone noticed much if any difference? I haven’t.

Just putting cameras every where isn’t traffic synchronization.

BTW, Essen headed north away from OLOL needs way better signage and striping. People driving in that mess who don’t know the area get messed up easily.

Oh it wouldn’t hurt if they added a longer right turn lane for Essen vehicles heading South to get in I 10.

This is why they now have signage up in that area reading “medical district”.

Hospitals, surgery centers, doctor’s offices, a medical college…

And OLOL is now Earl K Lake because of a contract between the state and the hospital, so all the ambulances bringing in NBR peeps end up there.

Its like if they put up signage, then that makes it true.

my experience is seeing accidents with 70+ patients trying to navigate Essen and the road to I-12.

I actually have noticed that the light timings seem somewhat improved during my commute. But there’s no silver bullet for “synchronization.” It’s a much more difficult problem than it appears at face value. Having consecutive lights turn green at the same time seems easy enough until you realize that traffic flows in both directions, making it impossible to optimize both. That’s before you get into the additional issues that come from turn signals and high-volume cross streets. It’s really a problem that requires some degree of machine learning to solve most effectively.

I think they’ve over-optimized a lot of turn signal timings, to the point where it seems many intersections start backing up the moment someone takes too long to go with a green arrow.

Another issue I wish they’d address - emergency vehicles. Many intersections have the sensors that turn the light green when an emergency vehicle with lights/sirens rolls through. That’s great. But it seems like 2-3 times a week there will be an ambulance driving through an intersection right when my light is about to turn green, and instead of picking up where it left off it just skips my light cycle completely. Pretty frustrating.

Still nobody can figure out the left hand turning lane that goes from Essen onto Perkins. The cars on the right want to get over to the left and vise versa.

Pretty sure OLOL administration called the shots on the Essen design.

I worked at the Lake from 92/97. When I started a new job where I am now, a coworker asked where I had worked before. I told them the Lake.

"Oh the bitch by the ditch" lol. 5 years there and I'd never heard it called that.
