I pay 2.3% - I don’t know anyone paying that.

Yep, 95 deg. temp. and 95% humidity. Damn I thought Baton Rouge was bad, and then I went through a summer in Dallas. But it is a great place to raise kids (in the suburbs everyone has discussed).

Well, if it makes you feel better property taxes in Illinois are about on par with Texas, but we still have a 4.9% state income tax rate and one of the highest sales tax rates in the country.

McKinney to uptown isn’t fun, but isn’t terrible. The train runs along 75 and the city place station is walking distance to the crescent area. I don’t know that I’d live anywhere else along 75 except maybe Allen. West Plano and Frisco are both great, but prepare for a helluva toll bill going to work and back. Hopefully you can work from home a day or two a week to offset some of the commute.

It's Texas. It's called a firearm. And you need several. Short barreled shotgun for home defense. Get your license to carry. Most of us carry in areas not restricted by the 30:06 law. Several AR15's are needed when the militia is called up.

God Bless Texas.

I would recommend staying in uptown or turtle creek for a year. That way you can be home quickly, last thing you want is to be in the office until midnight then drive 45 minutes.

Live here and commute to Richardson. Not bad. Crescent you will need to use DART. Benefit is you can read or whatever during the commute.

- This will be our 8th move together and with two toddlers and two dogs, we need a house with a yard so we are looking to buy once

I'm home before 6, get the kids in bed, then plug back in and work into the night.

- Grapevine
- Southlake (too far?)
- Trophy Club (too far?)

We love North Dallas, we are on the east side in the suburbs (Wylie, Murphy area). Great schools, sports, activities for kids.

I worked downtown for five years and rode the train, look into it. There's several park and rides which can save you a lot of gas, time and stress. My parking place was 7 miles from our front door.

Apartments are renting for more than homes costs including escrow so try to get in a home so you are not throwing money away.

Listen to 1310 The Ticket sports radio, it's not all sports.

Buy Cowboys gear

Welcome to Texas

Don't bring the Chicago mindset with you. too many people move south and then try to change the south into the shitehole they left. They left because of taxes they get to the south and immediately vote to raise taxes. Remember why you left and educate your fellow Yankees who are here.

I left the north 23 years ago and am always shocked to find fellow yankees voting for the same nonsense that destroyed the communities we used to live in - gun control, more taxes, more fees, more regulations and feel good legislators who are bent on good intentions paving the road to hell.

I was born and raised in the south.

I'm glad you like it down here.

How is the train system? Reliable? Super crowded?
