Only people winning here are greedy Louisiana politicians.

I say block them out. Any promise of positives won't come to fruition.

You believe that? Lmao

There’s no office there, and no huge parking garage. Where are the people?

Answer: 500 jobs ELSEWHERE

That’s the fine print. None if that job money comes here, it’s all at an office building elsewhere. There might be a dozen techs on site to keep it running, that’s it.

Well shite. I'm not sure who to believe. Pissed off Ricky from the internet or Meta, LED, and the local/state/federal authorities involved in the project. Because they say this:
quote:

Average salaries are touted to be 150% of the state's per capita average. According to the latest numbers from the Louisiana Workforce Commission, the average Louisiana salary is $58,614.92. Public filings associated with the project anticipate a Meta average salary of $82,000.

LED says that in addition to an eventual 500 jobs at the Meta AI plant and the 5,000 temporary construction-related jobs, the project will also support more than 1,000 "indirect" jobs.

But maybe you're right pissed off Ricky. And maybe your desire to see the project "fail" is actually what the region and state of Louisiana needs. I guess time will tell...

There’s no penalty to the company if the job numbers don’t turn out to be accurate; none.

Again I will ask: where’s the parking? Surely for 500 people they must be building quite a large lot/garage. If there isn’t any, then you know it’s bullshite.

Data centers produce less jobs than a gas station, and most of the revenue is state tax exempt due to blatant corruption.

Hope this shite fails, yet another scam to funnel money to globalists

You aren't exactly wrong and it will drive electricity costs through the roof.

You are not wrong again. A data hall or a data center without an administration section needs only about 20 parking spots. The average staff operating a data center is very small (about 5-10). If there are a lot of construction projects going on, there will be more obviously.

When you add the admin section (if needed, many dont need it) then a data center might have another 10-15 people working there but they are likely doing business operations for the company that owns the DC and not actually working on the data center itself.

Maybe the parking isn't on the rendering they have published Or maybe they are going to operate the 4 million sq ft facility with 12 people as you claim. I guess we'll see. Why do you want it to fail?

Finally someone gets it.

Can’t believe everyone in this thread who blindly believes whatever numbers a company throws out there. I can believe the numbers on temporary construction jobs, but 500 permanent positions is laughable

does that 500 number include the 3 gas power plants?

If the numbers they’re touting are legitimate, then I don’t want it to fail. But I seriously doubt they’re gonna add anywhere near that many jobs.

The only way there could be that many jobs is if it is a campus where there are several other buildings, too. Some of the META, Google, AWS data center campuses are like this. They have a lot of different groups on the same property rather than having multiple locations for the same company.

If it's just construction jobs for 10 years, and the jobs associated with the Entergy plant(s), it's a win for the region. I don't know shite about AI data centers, but I live in the area and hear all the hullabaloo. It's surprising to hear someone say it won't have a positive impact and hope it fails.

This is the best chance for a real economic advancement for Louisiana in my lifetime. Data centers aren’t going anywhere, and Louisiana has the attributes to be an actual player. If nothing else, it brings billions of commercial spending and taxable receipts into the state.

I agree. This is the best chance.

This state is, largely, full of fricking losers who will fumble it.

Cool assumption.

My stance has nothing to do with the environment and everything to do with the fact that this state sucks at everything they do. Why would this be any different?

Our education rankings are rising. Focus on that. This will not help that. Any positive thing that Meta might attempt to bring to this state will be stolen by the people in charge.
