TL;DR
"The global warming hoax that we're contributing towards is making it Too Damn Hot. So you, the person that pays for a service, should willingly make yourself Hot As Balls because it's as Hot as Satans a-hole outside. This is how paying for a service works, right? Right."

78 is not ideal but it's not like they are asking people to stop using their AC.
No one is willing to keep it a few degrees warming in their house in order to preserve energy, but if the electricity goes out then everyone will be bitching about how Entergy sucks, etc, etc.c. Although they asked people to limit their power, so that they wouldn't have to be without power.

Entergy can shove it up their arse. WE pay THEM. Why should the consumer have to sacrifice a utility just because they can't handle the load. Maybe they should fix their issue. I know I'm sure as hell not going to sacrifice my air conditioning just to help some company out that wouldn't give me a break if the opposite was needed. That company only cares about itself, not the customers best interest.
To the people who keep their houses in the low 70s or lower. Do you work in an office that keeps it cool? I don't understand how people keep it that cool in their house, especially in the 60s. People who work in the heat, going inside a place that is 76-78 degrees feels good to them. So what type of environment are people in who keeps their house so cool?

I work in an un air conditioned metal aircraft hangar which routinely gets over 100 degrees. So when i come home to my 77 degree house it initially feels great, but after a while 77 degrees is warm to me. So i turn it down to 73 while I'm awake and the programmable thermostat kicks it up a bit after I'm asleep. I'm a hot sleeper so I need it cool to sleep. I get paid to sweat my arse off at work. I don't care if it short dicks every cannibal in the Congo, My house will be 73 degrees.

We had to do this in Houston this summer. Every other day for like 5 hours from 2 pm to 7 pm they asked people to turn up the thermostat to 78.
And it was only a couple weeks we were supposed to do this.
It wasn’t a big deal.
This is what I don't understand. People are complaining because the utility company is asking them to limit their electricity usage. And complaining about how they will not do the utility company any favors, but if they were able to do so, they would rather people use as much energy as possible. They more they use the more they are selling, but they can't sell what they don't have so they are actually doing people a favor by asking them to reduce their usage so that it will not get to the point where they have to shut off power..
I get city utilities, which gets its energy from Entergy. I'd say within the past 5 years, there have been 2 or 3 times when they have turned off power to the city for an hour or some, usually around 5-6PM.
Because they have to start tapping into their backup, they need to restore their energy supply.
Is it really that big of an inconvenience for people to set their temp at 78 degrees?
Did no one in this thread have to live without AC or.. at least limited AC at some point during a hurricane? I think the longest I had to go without was 5 nights. There was a small window unit that was used at night, but it was too small to really keep things cool in two bedrooms. It was better than nothing, but the point is, sometimes you just have to do without for a little while. Some of you are too fricking spoiled.

People leave their ACs running at real cold even when they aren’t there?
Scruffy also turns his heater off in the winter unless it is unbearable.
Do y’all not like saving money?

I'm outside all day. When I come home, the A/C goes on 73. When I sleep, it goes on 69.
Having it on 76 only feels good for a little bit when you come inside

I didn't turn the heat on once last year even on the snow days. I only turn the air on at night (73) because my place must be insulated very well. My last bill was $42 and I've paid $28 in the winter months.

La pays less per kWh so you can have your deregulation
My rate in TX is 7.2 cents but with this plan you get an $85 bill credit when using 1,000 kwhr. So at 1,000 kwhr its like 3.2 cents.
This is just the plan I like the best. You have 64 providers and 318 different plans to choose from. Since Louisiana has superior rates than TX please post your latest bill and size of home. How many hurricane fees are you still paying for?

It was for 4 days in total I recall and that's when it was 100 degrees or more outside. That was this year because they closed 3 of the coal burning plans to retrofit them and that took off 16% of the total power from the grid. They announced this may be the case in January because 16% of the total power was being removed. Rates rose a little as well. But will be back to normal next summer.

The grid controller MISO, called for this to happen Thursday or Friday for Monday. Someone must need a Christmas bonus.

Your rate is 3.2 after taking in all the taxes/fees?

Maybe it takes more energy to cool a larger space?
