A lot of schools are adding ECE/Computer Engineering degrees as well. Basically a middle ground between Electrical and Comp Sci.

Or go physics then into patent law. Less orifices and old people.

After say 5 years experience, are most engineers making about 100K?

In general, oh hell no. In SG’s field, maybe.

You have to manage people in my world to make that.

He always liked Chemistry and doing hands on mechanical stuff. Never took an interest in coding.

Science is MUCH better than engineering. Learn why it actually works, not the equations someone made to explain it to engineers...just my take.

Literally every field an engineer does, at some level...probably have to leave out the easy engineering like Civil or Industrial. Granted, you’d have more school...but it takes longer to really figure out why than just being told to memorize the formula.

I get everyone likes to kick on Civil, that's fine... but to equate us to Industrial? C'mon man

Also depends on what his strengths are.

Exactly, the discipline he chooses should not be based on the highest salary. Good way to be miserable.

Hardcore math never appealed to me so EE would have been a terrible fit. Fortunately Chemistry was always my strong area so that's what determined things.

And as to the school - after a few years that is irrelevant, unless you are talking football. Most of what you learn in college is irrelevant to the actual job, calculus especially.

Electrical is the future. With the way date centers are taking over, the demand for electrical engineers is on the rise.
