At 11 pm? No. Either it's a false alarm or it's real. It could be a surprise evacuation drill for the night shift, too, I guess. Triggering the area alarm for that in the middle of the night would be a shitty thing for a plant to do to the community, though not quite as bad as gassing the community.

Tests happen in the middle of the day and each plant publishes the time it tests its alarms (usually within a couple hours of noon) so as not to freak people the frick out once a week when the RUN, MOTHERfrickER! alarm goes off.

Anyway, remember: Crosswind, then upwind.

Roll of plastic sheeting and a roll of duct tape. Drape over doors and windows and seal all around with the tape. Shut off ventilation units. Seal over the vents if you can.

It's not meant to keep all the gas out. It's meant to keep enough out to avoid dying. Everyone near a plant should know how to do it.

It's better than nothing, but properly fitted full-face respirators with cartridges for the gases you live near are better than that.

I was working for a contractor in a refinery office set up with computers for contractors to log their empoyees hours into the refinery accounting system. There were about ten contractors in there and a couple of refinery computer geeks to help the morons navigate the system.

A siren goes off, so I checked my watch and immediately realized it wasn't a weekly test. A second later, I realize it's not a normal test siren either. Nobody else seems alarmed, but I start thinking back to training and kind of announce, "Hey, isn't that the H2S alarm?" A couple of the guys laugh, and I said, "No shite, I think that's the H2S signal." The office was a good ways from the operations areally and nobody seemed concerned. So I asked one of the refinery employees, "Seriously, isn't that H2S sounding? Do you guys just ignore every siren over here?" He was a comical guy and had a great sense of humor, he stood up, opened a cabinet and pulled out box with about 2 dozen rolls of duct tape in it and said, "No worries ... We have duct tape." Everybody breaks out laughing and starts to get back to work. Before he could sit down, an announcement came over the building PA system detailing the shelter in place protocal.

It was a minor release, no injuries in the unit, but I guess any H2S release is kind of a big deal. We spent about 2-1/2 hours taped I that office with no a/c. I finished my work and took a nap until the All Clear was given.

I wouldn't want to be a civilian hearing strange sirens in the night.

If they really tapped up the windows, never believe another word from their mouths.

It’s prob some HCL from the Terminal across from Blue Line Rental on 30. They can’t seem to keep it in the pipes!

You are gonna get cancer living that close anyway so the alarm is the least of your worries.
