Yes, you need energy to power mechanical devices, he just put them together.
The batteries in cars are literally just a huge phone battery, or like when he first started, it was a bunch of computer batteries put together.

New energy tech? What are you talking about? There hasn't been any new energy tech for quite a long time.

Nuclear
Nothing new from any of the above categories.
Musk might be the guy to find a more effective way to store energy, but he hasn't done that yet. No one has quite done that yet.
Musk just gets far too many headlines for a bunch of nothing these days.
"Musk says we need universal basic income!"
"Elon Musk warns of AI!"
Everything is taken as bonafide fact for many.

The first all electric car using a lithium battery came about 9 years ago. I'd argue that's fairly new in the grand scheme of the history of cars. You'd probably argue that cars and lithium batteries have been around for a loooong time, but that just feels like semantics IMO.
These type of cars being used in mass by the general public are not something that has been around for a long time.
