The graph shows a significant drop in Cloudflare’s domain server ranking for Twitter in mid-2023 coincided with unpopular changes Musk made to the site, and the launch of the Meta-owned rival platform Threads.

Weird, because I don’t see a drop in Twitter links on this site or references to Twitter posts in traditional media either.

I don't think Twitter is dying, but you gotta admit one is using hard data and the other is your gut feeling.

You realize that Twitter went down for like a week when threads came out then no one used threads at all a month later. Right?

$1 a month or $10 a year to read x without bots? I'd consider it.

This is a good idea and it’s really the Russian troll farms who’ll complain.

You’d think the lefties crying about Russian bot influence would be happy.

I'm 7 and going back through kindergarten a 2nd time. How does money get rid of bots? Is he using the money to hire more people to combat them?

I have never heard of any of these until I saw it in this thread.

The money the bots would have to pay to post would offset their viability and they would likely stop being used. If a bot farm has 50,000 bots that $50,000 per month the owners would need to put up.

but has Twitter really lost any popularity

Idk. Twitter videos seem to be the most popular way to post sports moments that have just happened. I watched the Chubb injury last night through a posted Twitter link on Reddit.

Thanks for the explanation. If people are going to stick with Twitter-X to get their news, I'm all for mass reduction of bots there.

People can't make them for nothing. People will have to pay to have an account. The number of bots will plummet.

People will do a lot of things for free. People won't do a lot if they have to pay.

Thing of how many alters would cease to exist if Chicken charged $10 a year to post on TD.

Good.

I'm not on the platform, but there's a bot profile with my exact name on there. I've reported it over and over for years. Twitter never did anything about it. Now maybe they'll nuke it.

Much like The Advocate or NOLA.com.

Some would pay it, others find a workaround, still others will just move to another medium.

Charging for an online service spells death unless you offer a free alternative. Youtube Red is an example of how to make them work together.

I understand him trying to pull a profit, but this will sheer off a lot of users. There’s too many free alternatives.

This data doesn't prove the claim that Twitter's traffic has declined

1. This is DNS queries, not traffic
2. This is a ranking, so it's not measuring the absolute # of DNS queries, only the relationship of twitter.com queries to queries for other domains

But these alternatives either the democrat alternative OR the republican alternative. Twitter-X has the mix of both sides and that attracts people.
