It would make more sense to protect earth and her systems then harvest resources in space. Not set up a science project on a planet he will die on within a year.
I hate this mentality. There are 7.5 billion people on Earth. Why can’t we have a few of those people (and the few thousands or so that work for their companies) work on the Mars/space exploration thing?
There are plenty of other people to work on “protecting Earth”. I don’t think Musk is a proponent of fricking Earth up just to get to Mars. Pretty sure all of that can be done in parallel. And who knows what discoveries could be made while trying to terraform another planet that could also benefit Earth in the long run.

there isn't a 70% chance of anyone moving to mars before Musk is 70.

I get that the guy is a genius and all, but at this point, he is more a provacateur and marketing pitchman. It's really hard to take him seriously when he says stuff like this.

It's a sorry arse mentality. No sense of desire or drive to explore.
We can figure out how to do it. We just arent willing to size up to the money and effort it would take.

Did the reporter offer any clarification on the massive "problems" facing humanity? I wonder if this "journalist" might have an agenda...what newspaper/source employs this clown? Mars is just a complete paradise compared to the Earth, where HotRod Clinton couldn't get elected POTUS.
As far as Musk and you Magellan wannabes , who the hell wants to go live on an uninhabitable, freezing cold, no oxygen, little water, no plants or animals world where you can't even go outside without wearing a spacesuit? At least Columbus had some hot native tail, food and water waiting for him when he sailed across the Atlantic. You spend 6 months getting to Mars and you got nothing. F that.

I'm going to put my money on Musk having a 70% chance of shitting and falling back in it.

I love his drive and desire. I won't say that he will do it but I like the fact that he has these aspirations. People like him end up changing the world. At times he seems too distracted by several different projects though, so that may be his major undoing.

Do you think humans were designed to drive cars, fly in airplanes, and orbit the earth in rockets and live on space stations?
You really don't understand the human will to evolve beyond our means?
Evolution like the 3.5 billion years it will take for humans who will be practically single cell organisms on Mars, to adapt to said planets environment before we are building anything more complex than a water still with technology brought from earth thanks to some 14 year old precocious Indian student.
I watched about three hours of programming last night on the colonization of Mars, and was convinced not one second of the practicality of it all.
The shite they are trying to sell to us from NASA and the likes, almost have me thinking that there might be something to that Moon landing hoax theory.
Time to put the sci fi magazines down people.

Where are all the Musk worshippers now?

Every time Elon Musk opens his mouth, people sell Tesla stock. Why would you invest in a lunatic ?

I have no doubt that he's going to end up living as a recluse at the top of the MGM in Vegas.
