Who TF downvotes this?
This is a rare moment in time where all of humanity wins.

The conditions on Mars are extremely incompatible with human survival. No magnetosphere. No oxygen. Radiation. Dust storms. The list goes on. Why would we want to go there?
Continuation of sentient, human life. It's inevitable that something is going to kill life on Earth - whether that be natural or man made. Elon's been very clear before that just about his sole motivation in life is making humanity multi-planetary so that "we" can survive.
Mars is easily the best option for that right now, inhospitable as it may be.

Will the mars city football team be in the SEC or Big Ten?
You know Goodell is gonna try to have a game there

Musk said it will take 6 months one way but there’s some technology being developed that could cut that in half. I think the bigger issue is we can only go in that span of time in windows every 2 years

Put a man back on the moon and maybe I'll believe you

Investing in something is a whole lot different than being the genius behind the technology.
Edison created the light bulb.
Bell created the telephone.
Whitney invented the cotton gin.
The Wright brother invented the airplane.
Edison created the light bulb. - Nope, many had demonstrated an incandescent bulb before Edison. He did make the first practical one and got it to market, which is impressive, but he didn't "invent/create" the idea. Swan in England is the most well known predecessor.
Bell created the telephone. - Well, Elisha Gray submitted his patent the same day. Some say that Bell bribed someone in the Patent Office to put his ahead.
Just abut every success involved "standing on the shoulders of giants".

He said this exact thing like ten years ago

So we can go an eff-up another planet?
A part of me says if we can't manage life here on Earth, we blew our chance, and we should just go extinct like the other losers.
Adjusting to climate change is a walk in the park compared to adjusting to the climate on Mars. When your solution is 1000x worse than the problem, it's not a solution.
