if the family knew he had problems and were that concerned they should have secured power of attorney over him.

Martin Chevy in Breaux Bridge did this to my wifes grandmother. The sales guy drove to the bank and helped her write a check for ~26,000. Left $400 in her account.

We were stuck. They offered to buy it back for a few thousand less than purchase.

I'm not sure.

But if you're right, then it sucks for the dealership if they sold it to the guy without any indication of anything being wrong with him. If the family gets the contract voided somehow and forces the dealership to issue a refund, then the dealer gets stuck having to take a big loss on the depreciation when they try to re-sell it as a used model.

That's a whole lot easier said than done, both in actuality and emotionally. It's a nasty disease for both the patient and the family.

Dealership didn't do anything wrong. He was capable enough at the time to drive himself to the dealer, with a trailer attached in order to "walk away" with a SXS like that, and give the dealer all of his correct information to get the deal financed. Doesn't sound like he did anything to show Friendly he was incapable of purchasing the bike at the time.

The only thing I see that doesn't sound right is the price of $20k. If that is the actual bike then I personally don't think it should have been over $15k with the add on's and TT&L. Either the $20k is total price he would pay back for the bike if paid the minimum payment on the note for the entire term or they knocked an absolute homerun in the F&I office

Seems like it. Guy was of sound enough mental capacity to drive himself to the dealer to buy it, fill out all the paperwork, then haul the thing home. The kids just mad because they must think the old man doesn't have a long time left and its $20k less they'll be inheriting.

Guy walks into a business that has commissioned salespeople and they persuade him to buy something. Interdasting.

I'm going grab the one for the wife's car to make sure that's the same contract. If it is, the reporter needs a kick in the arse.

ETA: it is. Reporter needs kick in balls.

There isn't money coming their way. Sounds like all they are getting is to settle the man's unpaid debt.

Possibly.

Well, being physically able to drive a truck and write a check has nothing to do with being in full possession of one's faculties.

NOW you have come to the part that contradicts your first statement. Just because they try to rip off all their customers doesn't make it okay. Is it really better for the salesman to think "This old man is stupid. I can charge him whatever I want", than it is for the salesman to think "This old man dementia. I can charge him whatever I want"?

I'm sure they will. That doesn't mean they should be happy about it. And it certainly doesn't mean they are greedy, as indicated by the poster I quoted.

I think it was 20k down actually. The rest was trade in.

ETA: 25k. If there is no rate reduction for short term, why shorten it

Why would someone automatically cry fraud or sickness? If I was diagnosed with alzheimer's, nothing would make me feel more invincible that straddling a 20k badass testosterone fueled poon pooling machine. Might just be his way of going out sooner, avoiding the long drawn out hospital costs... you're welcome unappreciative family. More power to the old dude.

There's really no way that you can know any of this. It is all assumption.

If the guy went in showing no signs of any type of illness, why would she be upset with the dealer? Does she expect them to check people's medical records before making a sell?

People always want to blame someone, but sometimes things happen in which no one is to blame. If anyone is to blame it is the old man's but who knows what state of mine he was in. It seems like they could return it, they might not get all of their money back but its better than being stuck with $10k of debt. Or sell it..
