All you need is an old person or a kid and tweet out that they are upset because no one isn't supporting them and people will flock.

Lots of business ventures fail pretty spectacularly after just getting started, especially restaurants.
I know one location that has a long list of failed attempts at new restaurants, each lasting from a few months to 2 years.
I’m not going to get emotionally invested about a donut shop that flopped. I generally don’t eat donuts cause they’re bad for me.

My point still stands that this was a GREAT marketing ploy, and that it wasn't actually the case that the grand opening was a dud.

Catch 22. No one will patronize you if they're unaware of your existence. But it's hard to pay for radio/TV ads when money is tight.

There is a donut shop every ten feet in the houston suburbs. Tight market I’d think.
