So how exactly does this EBT thing work? I might just hop on that system so I can eat good steaks and seafood dinners

You can’t use EBT at restaurants - so I’m not sure what you are asking

You can buy damn near anything with it including steak

My favorite is March in convenience stores:

“Gimme 10 pounds of crawfish.” Whips out EBT card.

if it’s boiled crawfish (already cooked and hot) - then that is not an allowable purchase

Report the store

It’s been allowed on multiple occasions in the past.

after disasters like hurricanes or floods, hot foods can be purchased with ebt for a limited amount of time

But it’s not a usual item, it’s not supposed to be, and the store can be closed for that

There was a time in my life when people on govt assistance kept it to themselves.
Nowadays I get on my local community Facebook page and it’s people openly discussing being on welfare, food stamps and Medicaid. And what’s worse, they act like it’s just part of life and they are completely entitled to it. Just friggin crazy

well, the parishes that were hit hard for Ida were allowed to get hot foods for a while, and a lot more people can get them when there’s a disaster

But ebt for hot boiled crawfish is usually a no-no

In the 1990s my grandma lived in one of those low income housing complexes and she received $70 a month in food stamps - she said it was too much (she made everything from scratch) and wanted to donate the remainder to someone else

Yes it was. Otherwise, they wouldn’t have been buying boiled crawfish.

Dude, with this pathetic anti American Administration, you better hope they don't start letting EBT recipients get restaurant food delivered .
You know, so they have more time to look for jobs.

I can't believe my mom bought that for me when I was a kid. California style all the way but it was worse than orange soda.
