I just knew someone was going to pull the HIPPA BS, which does not say anything about the police naming a suspect. No one is saying to release his medical condition or what hospital he or she is at, and you know as well as I do that just about everybody working with that patient already knows what he is accused of, and I am sure the entire floor is covered with highly armed sheriffs

You can release the name of a suspect. You don't say anything about their med records or where they are hospitalized. It happens all the time and is no HIPAA violation.

No need to get upset, I said I was merely just taking a guess.

hospital doesn't want his name released to avoid disruption and maintain safety in case some person decides to find this person and shoot him
I agree with nurse. This is why they haven't said who it is.

That's possible. It has nothing whatsoever to do with HIPAA in that case is my point.

And anybody that really wants to know what hospital he or she is at, just ride around and look in the parking lot for an extraordinary amount of LEO vehicles (and probably several media vehicles), then if you are really eager, walk through the hospital starting with the ICU waiting rooms, then up and down the halls until you see a large congregation of LEOs and that will tell you where the perp is

I lost a partner in my 3rd year of my career on a domestic violence call.
My father always told me, he hated taking the calls, because when you got there, it would turn into a cluster frick. He nearly had his thumb bit off by the Wife, who called the cops.
It started with her calling the cops, they come, he resists, they begin to wrestle with him, trying to get him cuffed, then she gets involved, attacking the police officer/s and it's a mess.
And when it got hot and humid, and alcohol was involved, it was a ticking time bomb for whoever got the call.

I have heard way too many bad stories of shite going wrong when someone intervenes with a domestic disturbance, sucks to just watch it happen, but is best to just walk away, unfortunately LEOs don't have that luxury

Have they said what happened yet?

But just behind it is a sketchy looking apt/townhouse place. I didn't think they were in the barbershop. I could see where he was dispatched to that area, someone told him suspect had walked through towards movie theater area, and cop went there. Saw suspect matching description in that strip area where barbershop was, and was approaching when it went down.
This is what I was thinking when I first read about it last night. I didn't read that it happened inside a place of business, but that it was outside around that strip of businesses by the theater. When I read the incident was in response to a "domestic dispute," I just figured it probably originated in that shady residential area behind the theater & that strip of businesses, then ended up in the parking lot if the perp was chased there. Are there any details yet that confirm or negate this? I know it's still early in investigation, but I'm kind of perplexed at the lack of credible information & facts being reported regarding the entire thing.

From WBRZ
quote:
The shooting happened at a business in a strip mall near the movie theater on O'Neal Lane at I-12. Sgt. Shawn Anderson, 43, was responding to a rape investigation when he struggled with the shooter and was shot. .
Anderson was taken to a hospital across the street. Despite efforts of the medical team, his injuries were fatal. Family gathered at the hospital and other East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff's deputies stood at attention, saluting the deputy as his body was taken away from the medical center a few hours after the shooting.
The gunman was shot in the altercation, too. As of this update, the gunman was being cared for at a separate area hospital. Their name has not been released but a source said the man is a felon with arrests for attempted murder and sexually abusing a child.

People that love to bang away at the keyboard and get excited in these threads need to realize this. There are usually things going on behind the scenes that make it better for them to keep things quite for a while or at a minimum make damn sure all of the info is correct before running to the media to release info.
Just because we expect to know the whole story within hours of every major news story, doesn't mean that is how it's going to work.

The rape suspect, who hasn't been identified by law enforcement, was also shot during the struggle, Hicks said. He remained hospitalized Sunday evening.

I haven't read anything confirmed reliable. Info is really sketchy. I'm assuming investigation is highly detailed and they don't want any disinformation released and want to cover all bases. I don't know why info is so slow coming. Seems like basic details aren't usually this slow coming.

The comments in one of the articles had a possible explanation for not naming the POS. It said they are trending in LE to not name these guys because it gives them publicity.
They prefer to put all of the publicity on the fallen LEO. This is from the LE point of view though.
I am unsure why the media is not naming the criminal.

Did mahdragonz come in here to discuss the probable drug relationship between the sheriff and the shooter?

He was suspiciously absent. Makes you wonder.

Well, I'm neither excited nor banging away on a keyboard, nor do I expect to know every detail of what happened within the first 24 hours. I was simply asking the location of the incident, not the perp's ss#, zodiac sign, & what he ate for dinner. However, a report of the location of the incident & how the cops came to be there is usually pretty general information that's given rather early on.
