That's 100% true but schools and districts are going to be ever cautious because parents are crazy. Kid falls down at PE and hurts themselves, so parents are on the phone with a lawyer.

Isn't EBR all virtual right now?

There's more of a chance of a typical, popup summer thunderstorm doing more damage than tomorrow's forecast.
I agree 100%, and there’s no real reason to cancel school tomorrow. I’m just telling everyone that it’s not the unions that are behind the decisions. School districts are terrified of lawsuits.

I'm not saying you are wrong, at all, but I think we also have to acknowledge there is ZERO disincentive for school employees (including teachers) choosing to cancel school. They are still going to get their full paycheck regardless of if they teach that week or not. For some I'm sure the choice is easy. Why go through the trouble of going to work if it really doesn't negatively affect you?
Sadly, not all teachers have this mindset. Perhaps not even the majority. But just like the teacher who perpetually love to bask in effusive self-adulation on social media, the silent good teacher get lumped in with the useless teachers. Unfortunately, the only ones who suffer are the students.

Schools have built in hurricane days and will take away days from fall break or teacher in-service if needed. Students will still get the same amount of in class instructional minutes

I'm at LSU getting my Masters rn and my professor switched all of our classes from in-person to prerecorded lectures. Education system is wack af. EBR's is laughable at best and the teacher's union should be damn ashamed of themselves.

See you keep saying teachers, teachers have no opinion in this. They don't make the call, adminstration and the superintendent doesn't poll the teachers before making the decision

They said they were cancelling virtual school Monday and Tuesday.
Somebody explain that one please.

Hope all the voters remember this and the Covid BS when the teachers and school board members all start complaining about funding and needing to raise taxes or pass new taxes.
Public school education in this state has gone from ridiculous to the sublime.

Virtual school is still live instruction. Now they have busywork that won't be graded instead.

As a high school teacher, I am pissed that we had today and yesterday cancelled. There was no reason to make the announcement at 11am Sunday morning. They need to wait until after the 10pm NHC update the night before.
I just hope we aren’t cancelled anymore this week. It will suck to lose fall break or a couple days of thanksgiving because of this week when there was no reason for any district around BR to be cancelled at all this week.

Be prepared to be pissed then

I do think it’s funny how there are so many idiots out there who think teachers have any say so when schools get cancelled
Posted on 8/25/20 at 3:27 pm to HoopyD
Not sure why you think it’s just EBR schools. It’s state agencies and schools/colleges across Louisiana.

You have "inside info" here? Other area districts about to cancel too?

They hate us so much that they will grab onto anything if they see it as a way to make us look bad.

If EBR is doing it usually LP and AP will follow
