why not start as they always do, and of the schools starts getting a ton of cases (just like seasonal Flu) shut it down for a couple of weeks then restart.
and if individual students/families have an issue with face-to-face learning, then they get option of virtual learning....
everyone's happy.
and k-12 is the safest demographic in terms of mortality......

unfortunately you are correct. I have a kids entering prek and kindergarten. The school has already informed us they plan to be open but have no intention to refund or alter tuition if they go virtual. They are literally planning to use e-learning on 3 & 4 year olds as opposed to refunding any money. I have friends in the same situation and their schools are doing the same. I can understand the e-learning for older students, but e-learning is just worthless for the younger students. Before someone says, "dont pay", that isn't an option. School contracts were signed in January & February and tuition was due in June. Short of suing the school, we are fricked. Hopefully these school will change their policy which is unlikely.

This is true and you are right.
But kids are dying. I just don't think potentially risking your life to sit in a public school classroom makes sense when there's safer options and funding for alternative methods

Honestly is very few and far between and I'd wonder if there were any underlying conditions.
Although I will agree if parents have any concern with sending their kids to school and they want to keep them home but keep them enrolled in school then they will need to accommodate those children. They should provide with video lessons potentially and at least provide the lessons to do on their own at home.
However, I would also think that there would need to be some fairly stringent testing to verify that these students that are choosing to be at home are completing and actually learning the material required to advance in grade level. I'm not sure how that would work.

You’ll talk too much sense and then they will start attacking you. They only want to believe science when it’s climate change.
The death rate has collapsed. The hospitalizations rate is going down nationally and slightly up locally. If you have any underlying condition then make your own decision. If you have a condition then sit it out or try to use accommodations. This is what everybody else is doing. Don’t send your kids to school if they are sick.
