The city-parish is selling off thousands of properties that were placed in their hands after owners stopped paying property taxes on them. The average starting bid for the properties is $3,400, which includes title insurance and closing costs.

Holy freaking crap. This auction could not possibly be more racist. This is nothing but an attempt for white folks to be able to buy up all the black folks neighborhood land and drive them out or cause gentrification.

This is why someone like Beyoncé dos the half time show the way she did.

Anyone care to explain to a five year old how this works?

Do you basically agree to pay the back taxes and get the property after a certain period of time?

Edit: Thanks for the additional links. Civic source was the only link at first.

My interpretation is that you buy it via the auction process and viola! It's yours...

The article does not mention having to pay the back taxes

Just have to start paying the property taxes in order to keep it.

Yeah, delete this thread dickwad. Some of us want to scoop some of these, and you blasting it out to the world is going to drive the auctions up.

It's on the front page of TheAdvocate.com

But yeah, placing it on tOT probably generated more clicks than the POS newspaper site.

I think the owner has the opportunity to reimburse you and regain control of the property though.

After more research, I believe this is the case too.

That's correct. Plus the mortgage holder is not going to let it go for less than the balance owed to them.

I think they have a year or two to buy it back, so most of this is a waste of time.

Be careful. Some of these are ditches and other random pieces of property that was subdivided when a subdivision was built.

They would probably have to settle up on their unpaid taxes, correct?
