From Building in Her District

Can't make this up...

quote:

“Businesses judge the economic performance of a community mainly in terms of consumption level and dynamics,” Banks-Daniel writes in her email. “There appears to be an over-consumption of low-income housing. This dynamic makes it difficult to attract a grocery story and other retail establishment in my district.”

Habitat for Humanity Response:
quote:

“All of their homes were built on vacant or blighted property including two condemned houses that we tore down which were being used for illicit activities,” Clark says in a statement. “Now all 59 of those homeowners are paying property taxes and supporting the businesses in the area.”

Clark adds that Habitat homes in District 2, which she says is one of their most popular areas for potential homeowners, have increased the property values in those areas. For the most recent home dedication Banks-Daniel attended—which happened two months ago for a mother with six children—the home was appraised for $115,000.

To be totally honest, she is actually right.

Businesses do not want to open in low income areas for obvious reasons.

Nothing person, just business

So racist if you do, racist if you don't. Or something like that.

Yeah. And the building of Habitat for Humanity homes is not the reason why. Nor are they contributing to the low-income challenges.

Correlation doesn't imply causation, or something to that effect.

I wouldn't mind going a day on the OT where this wasn't said on the first page of damn near every thread.

Not picking on you VCU, just saying.

I bet there's something that could be reduced in her district that might attract businesses.

Habitat for Humanity is only building in areas that don't have a lot of value already. Plus, they are an awesome operation. I'm pretty sure they require the person getting the house to put in a lot of their own work and vet the recipients. They are still paying for the house and must have income. Habitat just makes it easier and cheaper for them. bullshite that this is bringing down the value of what is a shite area already.

This is the woman who has been caught using campaign funds for clothes, nails and to get her hair did. She also has been running her local community center as a personal fiefdom with city money.

I think she is running for Mayor as well.

Habitat for Humanity sells their homes to people that prove worthy. They are proud to be homeowners. This is Section 8.

All of th8s. I've done work with Habitat, and where I was they required the future owner to put in 400 hours of labor on their home and others in the project. They offer mortgages for people low on funds but high on effort.

Odds that Banks-Daniel owns some section 8 rental property that had some tenants move out into HH houses?
