It was pretty disgusting watching these elected officials try and sell other elected officials on this crap. I mean, you'd think Chauna Banks was either a Sterling or getting a piece of the action the way she rattled on and on about why it was the right thing to do. Jesus. Makes me fricking sick to listen to that BS.

She's getting a kickback if they get any money.

Uh oh... they didn't read aloud on the record a public e-mail comment, so now this has to go back up for a re-vote.

Email glitch forces rehearing of proposed settlement in Alton Sterling case

quote:

Because the meeting was held remotely due to the pandemic, public comments about the proposed settlement were submitted to the Metro Council administrator who, according to a recently enacted state law, is required to read all public comments aloud into the public record.

But one email on the Sterling settlement was inadvertently omitted because it was misdirected to the council administrator’s spam folder, council administrator Ashley Beck says.

“Our spam filter inadvertently blocked it,” Beck says. “Once we discovered that, I talked to the parish attorney, who said, based on that, the item needed to be reconsidered so that all comments could be read into the record.”

You can't make this shite up.

I hope they don't change the vote, unless it's even more heavily against a settlement.

I'd want to see the date stamp of that email to prove it was sent prior to the vote. I'd be willing to bet my life's savings this is a ploy by the lovely mayor and her cronies to get this back to a vote.

Apparently if you e-mail in a comment it HAS to be read aloud for everyone, even if it's offensive.

So here's your chance for an OT shoutout!

Even this fricking city's email server sucks arse.

The OT should flood this email address with disparaging comments about the entire City-Parish Government.

Also, Oweo sucks.

And, Peej's daughter is a whore.

Lastly, vote no."

Brb: emailing Harry Potter book in quotes.

What's the address?

If I still resided in BR, I would 100% do this, but I'm no longer a parish resident.

Please EBR OT'ers, do work! #DoGood #SeekJustice

The Metro Council should reject the mediator’s proposal of $5 million to settle the baseless and ridiculous wrongful death claims arising from the justified shooting of Alton Sterling.

Alton Sterling was a convicted felon who was shot while resisting a LAWFUL arrest when he was REACHING FOR A GUN after non-lethal means to subdue him were ineffective.

There are countless instances of police officers killed in situations just like this one. There’s a dead Tulsa police officer and another in critical condition from the other day because a suspect resisted arrest and non-lethal means were ineffective. Unlike Sterling, he was able to get to his gun and kill one officer and seriously wound the other.

Had the BRPD officer not JUSTIFIABLY shot Sterling, the outcome would likely have been the same.

Of course, dead cops don’t matter these days. Shooting resisting and armed suspects attacking police (Lancaster, PA) is automatically unjustified. Shooting resisting suspects trying to get to a weapon (Kenosha, Wi) is automatically unjustified. Shooting a suspect that resisted arrest, committed battery on a police officer, stole the officer’s taser (defined by the local DA as a deadly weapon) and firing that taser at the officer while fleeing (Atlanta, GA) is automatically unjustified.

This “settlement” is nothing more than extortion. A shakedown of the taxpayers of East Baton Rouge Parish by race hucksters who apparently were not satisfied with the blood of LEOS that was spilled in Baton Rouge in the Summer of 2016 as a result of their agitation in response to the Sterling shooting.

The Parish/BRPD should not pay a dime to them. If anything, the family should be given an invoice for the bullets used to kill him, and for the medical and funeral expenses for the officers that were shot later that Summer in their name.

Make them go to trial. Make them go up on appeal. A damage award of even 10% of this amount would be reversible error.

Vote NO on approving this settlement.

Councilwoman Jennifer Racca abstained from voting last time.

Jen, I know you are reading this. Don’t be a coward. Do the right thing and vote NO to this political shake down of EBR tax payers.

ETA: Poster above me gets it. Stand up to the mob.

If you are a District 12 resident, be sure to let her know. Her metro council email is: CouncilDistrict12DL@brla.gov

She better not pull a Friedburg (whose seat she now holds) like on the Council on Aging tax fiasco.

I thought it was telling the lawyers for the family came out immediately after the vote and said it was a mistake and that a jury could render a verdict of $100 million if it goes to trial.

That reeked of desperation on their part.

Did she give a reason for abstaining? If it’s just because she doesn’t want to be called a racist by Chauna and the Gravy gang, then that’s a pretty chicken shite move on her part. The EBR Metro Council is a dysfunctional clown show. Members run the gamut from good (Matt Watson) to so bad that it’s ridiculous (Chauna Banks). Then you have Chandler Loupe, who can’t be bothered to attend meetings or vote on issues that impact tax payers, although he did vote this time....in favor of giving the Sterlings the money.
