Kid got rhabdo from doing 200 push ups and got $175,000. That is $875 a push up. Sign me up.

quote:

A former McKinley High School student hospitalized for five days in 2014 after he was ordered to perform 200 push-ups for being late to band practice was properly awarded $175,000 in general damages, an appeals court has ruled.

Rushing and his mother, Melissa Rushing, sued the East Baton Rouge Parish School Board, McKinley High and the school's former volunteer assistant band director, Jason Jones, in 2015. It was Jones who ordered Tristen Rushing to do the push-ups as punishment for being tardy to marching band practice on Oct. 28, 2014, according to trial testimony.

Rushing was 16 when he hospitalized with muscle and kidney issues after the incident involving the push-ups. Medical testimony indicated Rushing's damaged muscles released an extremely high level of enzymes into his system, which threatened his kidneys and his life if left untreated.

I'm surprised that a dude in the band could do 200 push ups.

I assume this student had other medical issues because 200 pushups shouldn't cause borderline death in anyone...

Isn't that the condition some crossfitters get when they go too far?

It's a real situation btw.

200 pushups for an unconditioned kid is bad.....what dumbasses

200 pushups is a lot for most people, but forgot here on the OT we do sets of 350.

Its not like he did them all at once. No one that can do even 50 pushups at once is going to get rhabdo from doing 200 measly little pushups. This is a pathetic story.

Every lawsuit in the courthouse is frivolous except your own.

Something most lawyers learn early on that the general public thinks to be true

I don't understand why he didn't just say no to the teacher after doing a handful. He was obviously pushing it way too hard on himself

they don't do real push ups. They go down maybe 3 inches. Probably propped up on his knees.

some coaches let their kids go down 2 or 3 inches and right next to those kids the other coach or coaches might make their kids touch their noses.

16 year old me would have paid $175,000 to keep it secret If I had been hospitalized after 200 pushups.
