Nobody deserves to die or be hurt for riding a bike on a road. Anyone suggesting that they should in this thread should be banned

RIP Buddy

Either the driver misjudged where they were riding, or the bikers misjudged or didn’t see the driver and pulled out in front, or god forbid it’s a road rage incident

This is so sad. He was a wonderful person and has been very helpful to me as my council rep. My prayers to his family.

Let the facts come out before prosecuting the driver.

One of the first two things that came to mind.

- Driver wasn't paying attention AT ALL...

- Driver got pissed off and did something irrational that ended up tragic.

And I was safer than riding 1 mile in S Louisiana. This is the most bicycle- unfriendly place in America. You can have bikes or you can have truck nut baws, but you can’t have both.

For real.

I was told in another topic that using your cruise control is for pussies.

fricking louisianians.

Depending on where this was, it's pretty easy to get surprised by a slow moving cyclists. It's pretty hilly for Louisiana.

What if the driver wasn't responsible?

Ok...I will give you that.

Maybe I should have said...if the driver is deemed at fault...I hope he/she is charged to the fullest extent of the the law.

Better?

As someone who rode for years on a lot of back roads, busy roads, and all others in between...I can't even begin to tell you how much shite was thrown at me, yelled at me, and horns honked at me...simply for riding a bike where it was legal for me to do so.

If you have any doubts, riding a bike will quickly show you how many assholes exist in this world.

Like many have said, nobody deserves something like this happening to them. This is incredibly tragic and unfortunate and, as long as the driver wasn't impaired in some way, then I feel bad for that person as well, as I could not imagine being in that position.

While people are quick to always blame the driver in these situations (and they usually are at fault), I can tell you that there were a few situations that I had where I inadvertently put myself in harms way - be it trying to avoid something in the road, or whatever...

The bike hate here is silly. Some of you people need to grow-up and become adults. It's not cool to be a royal a-hole, you make yourself, city, state, and region look bad. Change...for your, and our sake.

Can anyone speak to the number of drivers on a road leading to a large prison? Is it often full of stressed visitors and guards?

In otherwords, the opposite of what you see heading to the Bluffs from 61. I used to run long distance back there. It's used by mostly homeowners many of whom bike themselves.

This is terrible. Prayers for the family

We have share the road initiative pushed here hard in bama after a similar accident

I just wish they would remove that bike race in st francisville, rouge rubaix or something.
Its dangerous and the bikers destroy the parish throwing litter everywhere

I agree with you Rummel. I think the hate is largely undeserved, it’s mostly people being mad that they’re inconvenienced by having to go around a biker. But we have a lot of trashy people here in LA that would like to take their own poor state of being and unleash it on anyone that is different from them and inconveniences them

This is why I didn't buy a road bike and just got a hybrid and mostly ride on designated shared paths. Too scared to ride on the roads and worry about getting hit by some idiot not paying attention or being an a-hole.

And even then...there still have been a couple times that someone almost hit me (not paying attention as they try to turn on red) as I was crossing the street in a crosswalk that was along the shared path.
