African-American Vernacular English is a legitimate dialect of American English. I believe it is one of the few American dialects that remains non-rhotic, and has remained relatively distinct despite all other regional dialects, broadly, merging into an American standard. It has its own conjugation structure and grammar rules, and those rules have been remarkably resilient in the face of a de facto standardization project that began with the use of regional accents through media to give the appearance of standardization, specifically using rhotic, nasally dialects like Western New England and Mid-Atlantic. I think the odd conjugation and non-rhotic combination adds to the "uneducated impression," though for some reason AAVE has more critics than similar non-rhotic accents of New York and Boston.

Anyone not black speaking ebonics is cultural appropriation and racism.

Anyone not black disparaging ebonics is super racism.

I posted about AAVE earlier in this thread, and it shouldn't be legitimate.

Yeah, this means it isn't English.

I think Boston and New York accents are not English either. Along with any southern accent or dialect. If you take a Florida accent that is an amalgamation of all these accents over a few generations and let that person speak, I think that is the American English dialect. I mean, just think back to middle school... How you read to yourself, just as the words are printed, without your southern/NE/Texan/Yay/Valley Girl accent...That is modern English.

If you're reading in an accent, for example: the word "isn't". If you substitute "ain't" right there, you can't read.

Why are you changing the way you speak in front of anyone?

I speak how I speak, and that's it. Now will I not say some stuff in a work meeting that I wouldn't say to one of my buddies? Of course, but I'm not changing an accent or cadence or anything.

It's more of I'm not going to talk about a certain topic at work, because, well, it's work and I'm talking about work shite.

What gets me is the insistence to use it when typing. It would take me longer to type in "ebonics" than proper English.

Lol, been gone from Natchitoches for quite awhile.

Probably been to more places around the country and world too. I have never heard someone say “make groceries”. That makes no sense.
