So I've sold like 3 things on eBay ever so little experience with this.

About a month ago I sold a painting for $175 total including shipping.

I printed off their shipping label which ended up being like 75 dollars leaving right around 100 total to get paid out.

I took it to a shipping place and paid $30 more for a box and packing materials and left it for them to ship.

Apparently it never got shipped. Initially I figured ok whatever I'm out the $30 and don't have the painting anymore but what can you do?

Now eBay just charged my bank account almost 100 dollars even though I never received any funds from them in the first place. WTF is going on and what are my options here? I get it if they have to take the money from my eBay account but how can they take money from my bank account? So now I'm basically out $130 between their withdrawal and the packing supplies as well as the item.

This can't be right and there has to be some way for me to fight this. I have the receipt from the shipping pace fwiw.

First off, do you have tracking on the package?

Yes I have a tracking number. It says label created but it was never received by USPS.

Ebay shouldn't be able to take what you never received. Dispute it.

eBay will always side with the buyer. It's the unfortunate reality of being a seller. They withdrawl from the same account you have set up for deposits.

You failed at your obligation as the seller, to ship the item, regardless of how it happened. Not much you can do.

They will refund you the shipping if the label was never scanned in for departure.

Ok so sounds like the buyer filed a dispute. Have you answered it?

I understand this which is why I was willing to eat losing the item and the packing costs. However, how can they take money from my bank account when I never received the money for the item in the first place?

eBay has gotten to the point where I'll just donate stuff or consider it as spare parts rather than sell stuff there.

OP, have the shipping store pull camera footage of what happened after you dropped it off. Chances are it's still in the store but behind some stacks of paper or something. You have a limited amount of time, or the footage will be overwritten.

Tracking number is your friend. eBay will back you pretty far if you have proof of shipping.

Yes, but if he didnt receive payment in the first place, Ebay must have held that payment until the transaction completed. If the buyer never receives the item, shouldn't Ebay release the funds back to the buyer and charge the seller what ever fees are owed?

You can dispute the fees if you didn’t get paid.

Even though I have sold plenty of stuff (not recently tho) on eBay, I would avoid a couple of things while selling:

1) Don't create shipping labels with them directly b/c they make $$ out of that shipping option convenience

2) Always use recycled packaging. If you don't have any, Walmart or storage units sell unassembled packaging pretty cheap (not $30 worth)

In your situation, if the painting was too large, I would have gone directly to UPS since their rates for ground shipping is way below the $75 you paid for.

Now you know the trick.

This is what I’m confused on. Why go shop it if you haven’t been paid for it yet? That makes no sense.

sounds like shipping place never shipped your package that is where i would start. if you had tracking showing it shipping and lost you would have a case with ups and get refunded through them. sell alot of stuff on Ebay dont understand how you never got full payment from Ebay before you shipped item.if you had receipt from shipper that you dropped it off with them and if they cant show where they shipped it i feel its on them.good luck shipping can be a big PIA but Ebay sides with buyer till you have proof of it being in ups, fedex or usps hands.

Good luck with that. I had a similar issue with ebay and tried to dispute it and nothing got resolved. I sold an item but never received payment. The "buyer" was a scammer. But since I marked it as sold before I realized it was a scam, I was charged seller fees. This happened twice before I just removed the listing and sold it on FB marketplace. So I never actually sold the item but I had about $70 in seller fees. I refused to pay it and I disputed the charges. Ebay basically said my account is frozen unless I pay the seller fees. That was 4 years ago and I haven't used ebay since. I don't really miss it. ebay sucks nowadays and is full of scammers.

If Ebay won't help you, then go to your bank and dispute their withdrawal in person

Only real repercussion from Ebay is that they may shut your account down. But it doesn't seem like you sell much so that doesn't really matter.

Yeah you get screwed. I sold a rotimatic for $500 a while back. Cost me $100 to ship and $40 in packaging. Post office damaged it in shipping. I still had to pay seller fees to ebay. I lost shipping fees and the item was ruined. Cost me $200 to lose my rotimatic. Sucked.
