Ear Infection Resulting in Ruptured Eardrum

I had an ear infection infection Friday night that had me contemplating suicide from 10pm-3am. My ear drum finally ruptured at 3am. I have a lot of discharge from my ear that saturates a cotton ball after 30min-1hr. Any advice?
Yes I’ve seen an MD and I’m on a z-pack and otic antibiotic drops.

Break your fingers so you can’t type.

Keep the ear as dry as possible. Wear a plug while showering and don’t swim. Use all the drops. It will clear up and heal.
I have a permanent hole in my ear drum. The rupture was so large that only surgery can fix it. You don’t want to know what that would involve.

Busting your tympanic membrane is probably one of the most painful things that can be experienced that you can't "hold" and dull the pain.

May I ask how long you've had the hole? My teenage son has one in his ear drum, has had it for several years. So far no serious hearing loss so I have been reluctant to go ahead with the surgery to repair it.

I’ve had that happen. They heal in a few weeks. It’s a miserable damned thing to experience. For whatever reason, I’m prone to getting ear infections. They quickly get out of control.
Hope you feel better.

You shouldn't let your wife's boyfriend stick things in your ear.

Did you know that is a submarine sinks, they train the sailors to use a tool to rupture their eardrums.
That would suck.

It hurt so bad at the time I took 1600mg of ibuprofen and 650mg of acetaminophen with zero effect on the pain. After the eardrum ruptured it didn’t hurt anymore. Right now the side of my neck is sore feeling.
I’m more concerned with controlling the discharge at this point.

You don’t know anyone who could give you a few pain meds? That’s miserable. I’m so sorry you’re hurting like that.

Unfortunately no I just moved here and it was late at night.
Thanks for the wishes.

Make sure the drops you're using can be used with ruptured ear drum. Something like ofloxacin should be ok.

I had a similar ordeal. I had an unusual echo feeling like I was in a drum for a couple of days. Strangely, I had no pain during the time. Woke up one morning for work and was almost stuck to the pillow. An abscess had burst, and scared the hell out of me, but I didn't know what it was at the time. Still, I had no pain. I got in to see an ENT doc and he cleaned it and prescribed meds. Went for a follow up a week later and he found a hole in my ear drum. Even he couldn't tell me why I had no pain and only the odd, drum feeling.
The initial infection was caused by an incompetent nurse at a clinic who botched the hell out of cleaning my ear. That process was much worse than the resulting infection and abscess.

My son had that surgery, it's a pretty major deal.

Mine has been several years as well. I’ve noticed some hearing loss in that ear. Gets infected every now and then but I use some Octovel drops and it clears up. I’m sticking with that for now. Really don’t want the surgery.
