What does keeping him alive solve? It's not as though prison rehabilitates anyone.
Killing him takes one more psychopath out of the world, would likely give peace to some of the family members, and it would prevent him from killing another person while in prison.

He isn't. This is the sentencing phase, and Roof has explicitly that said that there is nothing wrong with himself mentally.
That's why he fired his attorneys. But there is a lawyer ghost writing for him according to the article. Dude is trying to help this frick tie it up on appeal for years assuming he gets death.

Killing him won't solve anything.
It will ensure he never does it again and it will serve as punishment for the killings. So, yes, it solves at least 2 things.

It protects society from a dangerous person. Not all punishment is about revenge, more often than not it's pragmatic not emotional.
I get that. I don't think the person I was responding to does.

If he is sent to ADX Florence (Supermax) and sits in a solid soundproof concrete cell where all the furniture is also concrete for 23 hours a day for the rest of his life, I wouldn't lose any sleep. From what I've read, that prison sounds like hell on earth.

I just hope the sentence is letting him out in the yard of the most violent prison in the state and letting the prisoners have their way with him.
